Default Chrome Wheels for the Z

I just picked up a beautiful black Z06 from the LA area. Love everything about it but the standard wheels. They're nice and in beautiful shape but I think I like the chrome against the black better. I made a mistake and changed out my standard wheels on my C5 Z06 with after market chrome wheels and it seemed like it just killed the performance. They were a cheap, heavy wheel and I couldn't believe the difference in the way it performed. Don't want to make that mistake again. Is the OEM chrome wheels made by speedline that much heavier or can anyone tell the difference? Is there a better, cheaper after market Z06 wheel and where's the best place to purchase them.
Thanks Guys

Yes, the reproduction wheels are heavier. You would want the GM. That is Alcoa in 06 and Speedline in 07 and later. The chrome spyders are nice but they are heavier even in OEM. The OEM chrome GS wheels also are a bit heavier.

The original split spoke is what you want if you like the style and want a very reasonable price and a very light wheel.

Weights of the cars and their parts are in a sticky.

As mentioned, talk to Bob at HOUSE OF WHEELS. (FL) He has the light weight, speed rated OEM Speedline rims at a good price with fast and reasonable shipping. I have, from the NOTES in my phone, that the weights for OEM Z06 chrome rims are; front Speedline 22.9 lbs and
rear Speedline 26.5 lbs. I am sure that 20/19 combos look good, but there is NO WAY I would to a bigger and heavier rim on my performance based Z06.

Exactly my issue. Bought a used 07 with standard wheels. Sold them on CF, and found a used set of Speedline Spyders, and love them! Bonus: they had a set of Michelin PS2 ZP's with only 2K miles on them

I have chrome aftermarket spiders on my 06 Z. I just cant image any performance difference because the wheels weigh a few more lbs, but then, I don't race my car either. I guess if you are a serious racer, every pound counts.

If you are really serious every ounce counts. If you can find 1000 spots to save an ounce you have come up with some important wt reduction. And it does get down to fasteners and unneeded wires, etc.

How much does the 19 / 20 combo GM cup rims weigh ?
I heard they were lighter than stock 18 / 19 split spoke.

Here is what I found on my 2013 ZO6:

Black OEM Stock Spyders
Back rim 27.11
Back rim 27.06
Front rim 23.12
Front rim 23.13

OEM Chrome Spyders from House of Wheels

Back rim 29.03
Back rim 29.06
Front rim 24.14
Front rim 25.03

Hope that helps.

Wish you were closer, I've been looking to trade my chrome spyders for the sparkle (I think that's the true name) or hypersilver spyder rims. Just too much to keep clean even with ceramic brake pads.

The guy that had my car before me chrome dipped the stock wheels (not spiders). been trying to trade them for some not-chrome wheels or some spiders but no takers. I'd even put cash on top for spiders haha. oh well.

Very interesting data. So he chroming of the wheel picks up about 1-1.5 lbs per wheel in extra weight.

I have bought some powdercoated OEM split spokes from Speedline. They have tires on them now, but soon will be broken down. I will way those against my chrome OEM wheels to get another data point. My chrome wheels (off an 07 were 23# front OEM, 26# front Chinese, 26.5# rear OEM, 32# Chinese rear).

The seller I got them from thought all were OEM but apparently the guy he bought the 07 from had at one time curbed one side of the car and had replaced one side with knock offs. Actually the replaced wheels were mfged only a year ago and much cleaner than the OEM so I put the Chinese wheels on the passenger side and bought an extra OEM non Chrome set in case I go tracking.
