Battery life expectancy.
I have a 09Z purchased new in August 2008. It has 17K miles and the battery has never been replaced. We are planning about a 3K road trip in two weeks. Logic tells me it would be a sound decision to replace it and the FOB batteries. Am I paranoid? Any battery recommendations on the battery?

My OEM battery is now 6.5 years old and still works as new. I wouldn't say that is typical, but it really is hard to predict how long any battery will last. I usually drive the Z only on weekends and an occasional trip; that may explain the longevity. When it goes, I'll but an Optima.

I consider the battery as a convenience as it's mighty inconvenient to wake up on a Sunday morning a thousand miles from home with a dead battery.
A couple of years ago, I picked up a pair of FOB batteries at Walmart and threw them in the rear cubby hole. A couple of months ago, while in Estes Park, CO, on a Sunday evening, my #1 FOB's battery died in a gas station. Only took a few minutes to replace since I had a spare with me.
Kind of hard carrying a spare 90DLG battery in the car at 29.7 pounds, so I recommend that you change it out before you leave on your trip. Pain in the butt to change out in your driveway, but much easier then in a restaurant's parking lot.
AutoZone has a direct replacement battery that fits using the stock hold down clamp and it has the hole for the vent tube to connect to.

You can have your battery tested and make a replacement decision based on actual measurements rather than opinions and anecdotes. Many parts stores will test your battery for free.

Trying to run a battery over 48 months is asking to be left on the side of the road and in this car without door handles that likely is no fun particularly if it is midnight in the rain.
If we can't afford a $140 battery every 4 years maybe we should be driving a Prius.
But maybe that is just me.

My stock battery lasted 4.5 years before it suddenly took a dump. It survived a number of complete discharges due to my screwing up but even in the months before it quit the car could sit for over a week and the car would start fine.
I had planned on replacing it with another Delco but the day it failed the store that sold Delco's was closed and I purchased a Duralast for about $30 more than the Delco would have cost. The Duralast has been doing fine for about 15 months now.
