Default Brake Pad replacement time.

Hi guys,

its time to replace my pads. I am wondering what the popular replacements are among the Z06 crowd. Please share your favorite pads with part numbers and what style of driving your Z06 sees.

Thanks

I've been following the brake stuff for a while. It appears the consensus, for other than those heavily involved in track days, is to stick with the stock pads and calipers. They appear to work just great, even if you do a track day every now and then.

So much of this depends on how the car is driven. Probably most folks, on a track days, aren't pushing their cars anywhere near the limit.

Talk to KNS. they can tell you what pads are good for street with less dust. My experience with them has been good. I track my car so Other than that, I can't help.

The previous owner of my very low mileage 08 said he put on Hawk Ceramic pads. I can't verify that is what is on there without pulling them but I will say I have been very pleased with the lack of dusting and noise.

My M3 used stock pads and they completely covered the wheels in black brake dust daily.

Posi quiet ceramic single piece pads here as well. Have had them on for 3 or 4 months and have been very happy with them. Very low dust and very quiet. I don't track my Z but i do a spirited run from time to time.

For the kind of driving I do, they are fine. As far as how they compare to oem, I don't feel that go cart brake feeling. Oem are better brake pads but I wanted less brake dust and that's what I bought. You can tell that after braking hard after a few spirited runs they tend to fade a bit. But then again I don't drive like that all the time.

Take a look at the Carbotech 1521 compound. We make a 1 piece pad witch I prefer over the multi piece pucks. The 1 piece gives you 15% more pad surface and even pad wear as, the pucks all wear at a different rate. The 1521 can be used for the events you are doing with no problem. If interested give me a call at 216-780-8825 and I will be happy to place an order for you. I also offer 5% discount for forum members.

The Carbotech™ 1521™ is our high performance street compound. The 1521™ compound is known for its release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. 1521™ is also a very low dusting and low noise compound with an excellent initial bite. This compound's excellent linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Carbotech™ 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 800°F (426°C+). 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle or fleet vehicle. Carbotech™ 1521™ is NOT recommended for ANY track use.
