Default 2008 Z06 H/C Build

Howdy folks. Thought I would start a small thread to document the progress on my 08 Z. I bought it a few months ago and decided to do a head "fix"- I use that term lightly- and add a few ponies while at it. The car is at RMCR in Colorado Springs- hoping to go up this weekend or next and pick it up. Should be going on the dyno today or tomorrow if all goes well.

The build sheet:

Lingenfelter ported Ls7 heads
Bronze guides, Ferrea springs, Ti intake, and inconel exhaust valves (thinking of going FI in the future), ti retainers
Katech Torquer 116 cam (kept it mild)
Ported stock intake by RPM Motorsports
ARP bolts
Comp pushrods
Fresh lifters
Comp trunion upgrade to new rockers
ATI 10% Damper
Longtube headers (already installed)
No Cats (" ")
B&B Fusion Catback (" ")
K&N Aircharger Intake (" ")

Since someone will surely be wondering- I will be running Red Line 5W30.

EDIT: final #s = 525/491 corrected

Before / After dyno sheet:

Any guesses to the dyno #s? I believe its a dyno jet- is at ~5,000 feet but they run corrected numbers at the shop.

GOD I hope this was worth it. With our first child due in April...it better be

Going under the knife:

Happy Pistons

Ported heads in place

Comp Trunion kit install

Ported intake going on

More to follow as progress is made...

Corrected numbers eh? I don't think you can correct 1 mile altitude lol.

I can't attest to the accuracy of the following methods but here they are from the tuner of the shop:

These are SAE Corrected #'s. The DA was over 8500 feet. Correction Factor that my DynoJet made was 1.28. Which has been the norm for over 5 years in Colorado Springs. It goes from 1.22 to 1.32 depending on the day. I can break the math back out again, but these #'s are accurate.

Also there is no way to fudge the #'s. Dynojet does not allow me to manually change the correction factor. The only way to change it would be send it back to DynoJet. Also I just had the machine re-verified and software updated to read 2000HP last month.

Our one mile drag car does 1051 RWHP corrected on my dyno and when we dyno it in Texas before the one mile its within 2%. A testament to how accurate these machines are.

We tune all cars on 91 octane.

Thanks for all the reply's.

Mike

I've heard the damper causes more issues than it's worth. Other than that it looks like a solid build. Post up an idle clip once it's finished. I loved the sound of cammed rides!!

Will do! Have you heard anything bad about the ATI units? I couldn't find too much negatives about them- just a couple other brands. A local guy with a base C6 had his stock damper literally fly off a month ago (no kidding) so that sort of scared me into doing it.

It can be done. This is the same setup sub TSP head porting:

Fort Worth ranges from 500 to 800 feet above sea level; mean elevation is 670 feet and Dolores is 6,936 feet. With the altitude difference he is going to lose some power.

Hopefully, the dyno can correct for this some. Regardless, OP, you'll love the power of the new setup. I can tell you from driving this beast (it's my fathers Z), you'll enjoy the added HP and the fact that it drives completely stock!

we've had one that would constantly throw the ac belt for no apparent reason, the alignment was perfect, put the stock balancer back on.
other then that, they have been great.

Probably 30 rwhp less than with headers but I certainly understand. Being from California we can't do headers without R&Ring them every 2 years for Smog. I also understand the use of the low overlap cam. I recently sold a Camaro I had built up to these power levels that just wasn't fun to drive any longer. Too much noise, too much heat, too much vibration, too much too much.

I love the NVH of the stock Z06 as well as the power GM has gotten out of this motor with its good manners. Please keep us informed as the build progresses. If you don't mind sharing what is the cost. I am assuming about $7,000.

Sorry, as I should have stated in the first post that the car does have a set of longtubes, no cats, and B&B fusion catback. I agree- GM really did accomplish some amazing feats with these cars from the factory...hence convincing a life-long Ford guy (me) to get one Like you, I really wanted to keep near-factory driveability. A large cam can make some insane power, and are fun in their own way, but being that this car is a weekend warrior / club cruise attendee for the most part- I really just wanted to keep near factory manners while "fixing" the valve issue & picking up some nice power.

They are hoping to get it on the dyno today, so we will see! All said and done the final bill should be about 7,500. I'll sell some of the stock items like the heads, intake, cam, etc and should make a little bit back.

Thanks folks! Added some new pictures this AM.
