Default 2008 Z06 Blown Motor

Well I guess I am the latest casualty as my Z06 engine seized on the way home from work Thursday night with 20k miles. As I was shifting from fourth to fifth gear, heard a bang, rattle and engine seized. No smoke, no oil, and no hole in the block as I can tell. Will pull heads to see how screwed I am. Bought an 08 with 9k mi a year ago and had the wiggle test performed at 15K mi when I had Katech Torquer 116 cam installed with Brian Tooley valve springs, Comp Cans Trunion upgrade, Comp Cams adjustable push rods, C5-R timing chain. Running with Callaway Honker intake and Pfadt headers/mid pipe with Akropivic mufflers at the rear. Setup was making around 620hp at the crank. Just sick to my stomach now...

Ok...you had a Modded LS7 blow up, and you left out some significant info....like what were your results from the wiggle test? When you did the springs and trunions..did you not opt to take the heads off and have new guides and valves installed?

Either way.....sorry about your loss and hope you get it repaired and back up running soon.

Sorry to hear it, but hang in there and take it step by step. Hopefully there will be a lot left undamaged to rebuild with ...

let us know what you find -

Wiggle test my ***. I'd never trust a 15k engine on a wiggle test. Like putting a condom on that's faulty n hoping u don't knock a bitch up. If it's out of warranty get the heads done. No 2 ways about it! Just my 2c

Sorry man I have to ask. Did you track the car or do any serious drag racing? from what you describe it dosent seem like a dropped valve. I will be interested to know what caused the seize. Agsin sorry man.

This is the exact reason i dont even perform the "wiggle" test... Completely pointless if you ask me.

If the point is to sell parts and labor, there's not much profit in performing a test that may tell the customer that their current parts are not particularly worn.

ask the original poster if the wiggle test was money well spent? ls7 heads are a fault. fix that ****. dont just monitor or check it. FIX IT!! if u wanna roll the dice and hope that the wiggle test saves ur *** then go 4 it. soon as i bought mine the heads came off. if u cant afford to do the heads of a Z. get an ls3 not an ls7.

We don't know what the wiggle test results were nor do we know what, if anything, he did after he got results. Additionally, we don't know what the autopsy will show. Let's not jump to any conclusions until we have actual details.

not talkin case specific. generalization. no-one shud think or assume the wiggle test eliminates a failed engine. if it was a alternator or a starter that wont cause 15k in damage....then ride the lightning n replace it when it fails but not when the failure will lead to a 15k bill. its a risk that shouldnt be taken especially if its out of warranty n ur stuck with the bill. wiggle test to me if just ridiculous n gives ppl a false sense of security

How can you make a statement like this w/o knowing what the problem is and what caused it??
