Default Installed new splitter, can't pull the trigger on the skirts

Just finished installing the new carbon fiber front splitter from CF Performance but I can't pull the trigger on installing the side skirts. I paid $200 to have them covered in clear plastic from SunTek but having to drill the holes in the rocker panels has me at a dead stop. The holes will have to be drilled almost on the side of the rocker panel and if I ever took them off or they were step on like running boards by my grand kids, the holes left would look like hell. Nothing bad on the product, in fact they are well made. Just can't drill. How did everyone make the permanent decision? Guess I'll put them up for sale and take the loss.

I struggled installing mine also. I finally said the hell with it and put them on. If they get damaged I guess I'll just cough up the $$ to replace them

Agree with Grim Reaper. It just seems crazy to drill into a car like this, but I liked the look of the skirts on other owners' cars and gave in. I did feel a little easier about it after drilling into the rear fascia to install the full width spoiler.

I'm assuming it's the same installation they do for the ground effects on the ZR1 and that means a ZR1 without skirts is going to have holes as well. Just a thought.

I too hesitated on installing them. But then I said, the hell with it and started drilling. If one cracks or gets damaged, I'll replace it. So far so good!

They protect your paint from front wheel spray a bit too. Never had a problem with scraping mine. Put em on.

The permanence of the installation led me to go with fiberglass skirts that could be easily repaired if damaged. I painted them flat black. Installed them in 2011 and after some impacts with tire barriers on a couple of autocross courses and a lot of road debris damage I took them off and refinished them this spring. Took the car to a Cars and Coffee after getting it back together. Somewhere on the 18 mile drive the front tire threw up a stone and chipped the refinished skirt. At least I can fix this spot without pulling the skirt off.

When you install them make sure you use 3/16 in large head exploding rivets.

So the vote is don't be a puss and just do it? I have one more problem that will need to be worked out if I do it. I have a 2 post lift and the Z barely gets on it now, with the skirts what are everyone's suggestions on how to get it on the lift?

I had to take mine off and of course it looks like **** now. My car is pretty low and the side skirts rubbed a lot more frequently than the front splitter.

Is your car lowered? My front splitter doesn't hang much lower than the original so I'm not worried about it. There are a lot of ZR1's out there that don't seem to have a problem. I worry about getting it on and off my lift more than anything now.

I seriously paced back and forth for about 2 hours starring at my car debating on putting holes in it, fit and refit the skirts and mud flaps 12 times and finally just bit the bullet and went for it...it was easy and once done you will be happy

I know it's not a Z but I went through the same thing on my 13' 5.0. Had the splitters and rear diffuser purchased and it took a week to work up the stones to install them. Now I can't imagine the car without them. Just do it because racecar

I installed my own last month, once you drill that 1st hole the tension slips away with each rivet you pop in Once they were installed, I was happy I took the leap of faith.

it's only a car, drill some holes into her.......
I installed Z06 brake ducts on my C5, using a jig saw to cut the openings that was much more intimidating !!

Your car looks nice. Why are you breaking them?

For me its either both splitter and skirts or nothing at all. Cars with just the splitter and no skirts just look like something is missing and vice versa. I thought I'd be content with just the skirts so I only ordered those. However once I installed them the car just didn't look right to me, so I called CF kits back and ordered the splitter. Its crazy how the splitter and skirts completely change the look of the car .
