With my warranty head replacement back in July, we got a set of bare heads and a bag of parts. I had my cylinder head service assemble them for the dealer, but...we also measured the heads and valves prior to assembly and found some valve seats with runout. It was more expedient to use my head guy's Serdi to repair those seats than to try and get another set of castings.

There is no GM part number for a loaded head (with valves and springs installed). The P/N is for the bare head alone then individual P/N's for each part. As stated by Hib, bare heads and a bag of parts.

GM Performance Parts offers a loaded head (12578449). I have read (here) of some dealers installing those, apparently with GM's blessing (under warranty).

I stand corrected sir, thank you for the knowledge. I was under the impression gm p/n 12578450 was the only p/n for the ls7 head. Learn something new all the time.

Do you know the date code on your new heads? I am wondering if you happened to get a set of older heads out of stock. From what I have heard from software developers their service parts operation leaves a little to be desired when it comes to tracking part numbers.

My 09 Z heads were replaced under warranty at a Chevy dealership. Bare heads (12578450) with required parts for assembly. Dealer had a local machine shop assemble the heads, then back to the dealer for installation.

I tried calling them, but they didn't remember anything a year later. My concern is that my new heads could be just as messed up as the old ones like in Hib's case (and one other case mentioned on this forum.)
