Default Why I hate buying used cars.

I just can't seem to find a 06-09 Z06 that for one reason or another doesn't raise my eyebrows. So my latest find is a bone stock 08 3lZ. The first thing I noticed was that it has a duplicate title. Other then that, it's 38K miles and three owners it looks perfect. It's as close to exactly what I've been looking for since I started my search. The asking price is rounded off to the closest thousand of Kelly BB. OK, now starting to get wood so I dig into it a little deeper. I don't have to dig to far to see that the original owner had it from 6/08 until 8/13. The second owner bought it in 8/13 and it sold on 6/14. Only 10 months, hmmmm. Then the third owner bought it in 6/14 and now is trying to sell it 3 months later. Why would someone buy it, title it, pay the sales tax on it and only keep it for three months? Now my eyebrows are up touching my hairline

Could be lots of reasons....realized they didn't want a Z, finances change, don't want to make the payment anymore, medical problems...etc.etc....doesn't mean something is wrong with the car and you won't know til you look at it.

Not $38,000.00, 38,000 miles. Kelly BB put it at about $42,000 and that is the asking price.

Going out to work on my garage for whatever ends up in there

I would listen to your eyebrows. Why the Dup title? I dont like that. Better be a rock solid answer to that. And yes many of the dropped valve Zs came from muliple owner cars. And many were abused. Have you got a clean carfax? and even so, they can be WRONG! See if you could have a bodyshop look over this car for any tail tail signs of accidents.. Good luck, the right Z will come. Iv been where you are and with a little luck i found my Dream Z, AND so will you...

I wouldn't bother looking into the car anymore. Cars that change owners often usually have issues. There are plenty of original owner, low mileage cars out there. Try expanding your search.

You can look for many reasons not to buy a car.Do your homework and if everything checks out and its the car you ve been searching for then just buy it.

When I was lookinf for a Z06, most of them had 3-5 owners. Even a 2012 I looked at had 2 owners already! I finally found my 2006 z at a dealership with 26k miles and only one owner.

IMO, buying the "right" used vehicle is a combination of science, art & patience !

Come on, it is a used Chevy for God's sake. This is not some ultra rare Ferrari.

You would be getting a HUGE performance bargain that the 1st owner already took a huge hit on. But then again, I was patient and I got great deals on both of my Z06's that I took chances on!!

You're buying a car for 1/2 the original price. That's why they call it used. Only a new car will be perfect.

Maybe you should wait and buy a brand new C7 Z06?

And luck. I was out of town (state) on a business trip, found mine advertised locally (private sale), and was able to check it out that night. Bought it the next day after a pre-purch at a local Chevy dealer with a chassis dyno () and came back a week later to get it home.

Just days before that point I had already given up and was going to put a purchase off for a year or two until work settled down.

I haven't found that to be true. I became the third owner of my 03Z when the car was just 8 months old. I kept the car for 6 years. It was a damn good car and spent a lot of time on the track. Next, I became the third owner of my 08Z when it was 18 months old. Still have it and it sees a lot of track time. The engine dropped a valve two years after I purchased it and GM replaced the engine. Other than that scary situation the car has been great.

By the way a 38K mile 08 is a low mile car. On average it has seen 5.3K miles per year. That is half the mileage a daily driver sees. My 08 has 37K.

Statements like yours make me wonder why you ever bought a Corvette...

PS one can put a "Big" motor in about any "POS" and go fast, at least in a straight line; For a lot less money...

Duplicate title is meaningless. For example, when I paid off my Z Ally LOST my original title. Lost. Gone. Forever.

So I have a letter stating the lien has been satisfied and when I sell the car I'll get a title from DMV that will be a duplicate.

What's the big deal?

Understand and your correct for the most part. But, some states are very good at washing titles as we say in the car Biz. We used to get many from VA. here in N.C. that were cleaned up not showing accidents and such. It is simply a Red Flag in my mind. I would go to great lenghts to make sure Title is Legit. A chevy malibu is one thing, a chevy Z06 is another.............
