I hate these Threads butttt
My 06 just dropped a valve Saturday I have 59,000 miles on it The only mod is cia and a tune a couple of strip passes a couple years ago. My car is just my Saturday go to cruises and a trip to the Dragon once a year.
I was cruising down a busy street at 35mph and I heard the dreaded sound of metal grinding. I was lucky enough to be by a parking lot pulled right in. The engine is frozen right up some coolant leaking
Won't know how much damage till I pull the head but the spark plug is smashed. I expect to see at least a piston damaged and who knows what else
I really hoped GM would have a recall but no luck

They may not have a recall but they may be willing to help. Time to ask them for help. The worst thing they can say is "NO". They may surprise you.

Like you said, the worst thing they can say is no, but I doubt they will do anything considering it is an 06 with 59k miles (which only had a 3 year, 36,000 mile powertrain warranty versus the 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty for 07s and later).

Sad. Any reason you didn't address the issue if you knew about it?
I wouldn't touch an ls7 without done heads or a warranty.
Good luck.

sorry to read this, but on a positive note, there seems to be fewer of these posts as owners do a fix before it happens to them........so good on us who have. Again, sorry to read and good luck

My point is you should not have to change anything on a car like the z06 to make it go for more than 60,000 miles Or am I wrong in this thinking?

I know I should have and was in the plans for this winter while in storage. I had a Kia Saphia the cheapest Kia made put 80,000 trouble free miles on it before it rusted away. Get a 70,000 thousand dollar sports car and have to swap heads before it blows up Don't you guys think there is something wrong with this?

PLEASE check your valve stem to guide clearances before you do anything else (there are plenty of threads on how to do this - easier on the passenger side - should not take more than 30 mins to an hour if you work slowly) even if it is just a "wiggle test".
We all want to know if you had worn guides, which FATIGUED the valve, which caused it to fail.
This is important - there are folks still bashing the stock exhaust valves as being the weak link, when in fact it is MUCH more likely that they just can't take the abuse of running in a severely worn guide.
Sorry for your loss!!

Stainless steel exhaust valve, still trying to figure out what the hell happened to it since thats the only valve that has this issue.
