Cammed Z06 eating stock mufflers?
Hi everyone,
Im wondering if you can help me with a situation im having. I have an 08 z06 with a fairly large cam, forgot the specs but the car made 558 to the ground with just cam/longtubes/catless mids.
Anyways, I've been searching trying to find the answer to this with no luck.
When i bought my car, the stock mufflers had a very bad internal rattle. I bought 2 replacement mufflers in good condition from west coast corvette and installed them. I cant remember but from day 1 with the new mufflers, Ive always had a drone and a metal on metal resonance noise at low rpm... around 1500ish. Im wondering if the cam is creating pressure in the exhaust and blowing the internal baffles apart in the mufflers. Has anyone seen this before?

My OEM mufflers went south like yours after I installed my Torquer 110. I didn't think the two were related because it isn't uncommon for there to be issues with the exhaust baffles on the OEM mufflers in general.
I'm interested in what others may have experienced though.

Now this is just a guess. Been wrong before. Been there and done that and probably be wong again.......but.......My guess it there won't be many that can actually answer this as most went aftermarket exhaust before the cam.

Thanks for the reply everyone. Im curious as well...
I know this post sounds kinda silly but I was hoping to keep the stock exhaust to quiet it down on those drives around town. This damn cam hits hard though and I think it slowly destroyed the new mufflers over the course of a week. It sounds like a metal resonance high frequency vibration around 1500ish. Also, when cruising at highway speeds in high gear (6th at 70-80mph) I hear the drone/resonance too).
Does everyone just upgrade catbacks when they do a cam? If so, whats a nice quiet catback (I'll research on my end as well).

Hi !
I think this crack is your problem (like mine). Weld it and weld a metall piece in it to stiffen, so it wont swing anymore. Only one muffler had the problem and it was the right one grrr. ;-) It a commen problem i think ...
See the cracks ... weld a piece ot metall from the covered pipe to the broken metall sheet, so it cant swing anymore.

after my big cam swap i noticed that my sound at idle with the flaps open or closed stayed the same and seemed like alot of back pressure was added. I took the bi mode muffs off and went to a single mode muff all is good now
