Default transmission issues

I have an 08z and it grinds a little in fourth gear only. My question is how long can I drive it like that and what do I upgrade to solve this problem?

Does it grind going into 4th? Have you recently done anything with the trans, clutch, or shifter assembly?

Not a trans expert but some more specifics can help someone who is an expert diagnose your issue better.

I have had the car only a month. Just had the clutch master cylinder replaced.

Default Since you didn't specify,

I'm going to assume you are referring to grinding/clash when engaging?

The linkage could be worn or out of adjustment, although you didn't mention problem's with any other gear. If the slave cylinder were bad, it would be difficult to engage into first, (all the gears) I would think.

Does this happen when your attempting to "Speed Shift." Maybe your unconsciously not depressing the pedal to the floor?

What ever the reason, drain the transmission and look for metal in the fluid. If a syncro/other part, is failing there will likely be small fragments of metal suspended in the fluid.

In any case, slave cylinder or clutch, the transmission will have to come out, and likely need rebuilding. If that is the case do your self a favor and replace above mentioned parts. It's a labor extensive job replacing the transmission. I would know this as I have a new trans in my 08. I used that repair to up-grade the clutch to the Katech ZR-1 dual disk, new flywheel, and slave cylinder.

Or you can change the fluid, and run it until it fails or you acquire more money to replace it or rebuild. I have found in the past addressing a problem at the beginning is less costly than waiting for a complete failure...

Only 12k and needed the synchro's replaced. Do you have extended warranty? Just because repairs were made there is no guarantee it was done correctly. A friends 67 Chevelle had the trans rebuild when he restored his classic. Complaining about difficulty shifting, he brought it over and I adjusted the free play because of gear clash/grinding when attempting to engage second and third. Ended up removing the trans and returning to shop which had to rebuild the synchro's the second time.

I would drain the fluid and look for suspended metal. Maybe with new fluid it will last long enough for you to acquire enough money, at which point I would replace with a new one. Apparently there could be a problem with your transmission, I'm not sure I would invest more money in it?

Would you please keep us updated; I have a personal interest, as mine had to be replaced. My new one seems to be working fine, except a small oil leak coming somewhere, from the top left side of the trans...

Tranny is getting fixed under warranty. Do I upgrade it or just get what's wrong repaired?

Too much. Sounds like they're trying to make the money back they're losing doing the warranty work.

They said all blocking rings will be carbon, bronze fork pads, and heavy forks.

You need to spend more time and thought when constructing your titles.

I was afraid to click on your post.

Glad to see this is not about your love life.
