I thought I read about some 2013s blowing up due to valves dropping. I'm not sure if any of the new Z28s have had issues yet.
valve seat concentricity , valve guide to valve stem clearance issues , all from poor machine work @ the supplier , even new factory replacement cyl heads have been known to have issues .

Hey Jason,

How much is the inspection/wiggle test and how much is the fix, if needed?

Phil tuned my current ls3 c6 and I am not too far from you. I am test driving a zo6 shortly, if the weather holds up. I would like to get a ball park in case I do end up pulling the trigger.

Sodium has better thermal conductivity than either Titianium or Stainless steel. The sodium will wick heat away from the valve seat faster than a solid Ti or Stainless valve.
Just so you know I was being sarcastic (sodium filled intake valves).

Since not all heads have the problem it looks like there is some sort of QC problem with the machines or the control programming. GM said the problem was resolved on their end by doing a complete incoming inspection on heads delivered after Feb. 2011. It would be interesting to see how the results vary in heads that were delivered to GM after that time.

Bill
According to GM there were some heads that were set aside that they went back to in a time of need and those are the ones with the problem. However, they said this affected 09-11 MY and we have found all model years with the problem so it is likely more widespread.

We don't do the wiggle test because I believe it can show extreme wear cases, but it's hard to define the borderline cases. We remove the heads and measure the exact valve to guide clearance.

If you're local and looking for a Z06 I have an 06 with a brand new GM engine priced to sell.

Lol... Its a $3k fix, big deal and its a prefect excuse to put a cam in and roll around 550-600hp... a base model is never going to compare to a Z...

All true, and honestly I still would like a z, but a $75,000 car with a $15,000 engine shouldn't need any fix for any amount just to keep going. 550 -600 hp on a z!!! Now im really jealous!

Agreed but that's the hand we are dealt... The performance is unbeatable in this price range so we just have to factor that in when we buy.

Issue: "Valve seat to guide concentricity"
I don't disagree, but then we should see poor leak down tests as well as poor performance on new engines because the valves are not seating correctly.
