Default My 09 Z + $20K for a 2013 Z?

I'm considering a 2013 Z, 2LZ with nav., 13k miles.
I have a 2009 Z, 2LZ with nav., 52k miles.

Dealer wants my car plus $20K. I'm not interested in a C7. Fair deal?

Thats my thoughts as well, it doesn't seem you are gaining enough to spend 20K??

I ask myself that question too. Really boils down to 40k less mileage and a power train warranty good until 03/18.

WAT.

There is no value proposition here.

Spend less than $5k on the best head package and keep $15k earning interest. Worst case scenario on a large scale failure, a built motor is 10-15k, IF something were to happen. If nothing happens you are still earning interest on your $15k for the same car. 40k miles is not much in my opinion but if you are very wealthy and don't care about money then that is another story.

Not at all. You already have the larger oil capacity. All you're really gaining is the marginally better seats. You made it to 52k miles just get the heads done maybe throw a mild cam in for some more power.

It's not even like you're gaining a new infotainment system or anything. Maybe an AUX in later years? Just get a good nav system in the first place they're like under a $1000. Best ones are $1200 or so.

Bottom line is you can spend significantly less than $20k and be happier with your current Z.

I tend to agree with everyone else, and quite frankly for a 2013 the mileage is high; it would be a good deal, maybe, if it had 2-3K miles on it; even then maybe $10-15K. Now the other, emotional issue is, do you like the color better, do you just want a newer car, is it better equipped, Z07, CFZ, wheels, etc.

Your car is worth about 39-41K. The car you are getting is worth about 59K. Your not getting any deal. I would tell him your car plus 16K or your walking. He might bite.

I agree with the others though. Just fix the heads and be done. It will cost you far less than 16-20K and you will have the same car.

Well I don't agree with everyone else. Much newer car both in model year and milage. The warranty for 3 years is a huge peace of mind deal. I would try and get the cash down a little but like the idea. I too would not be interested in a C7.

Just spend $1800 and extend the GMPP warranty now, not $20k for warranty.

Do you guys know if GM is warranting motor failures do the valves dropping? Of all the people I've talked to, I've only known 1 guy say he got his warrantied. According to him, they refused to ever warranty anything on the car again if there were any future failures.

This isn't any kind of first hand experience, but makes me wonder if there are guys out there getting these things fixed by GM if there was a catastrophic failure. If not, it makes me even less inclined to go with the newer car.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I can afford the $20K. However, after reading some of these posts, the dealer will have to come down in price. $16K seems reasonable. My car and the dealer car are clones. Both Cyber Gray (my favorite), chrome spider wheels, spoiler, same options, only difference is the color of the seats. A 2013 is appealing in the sense that it's the last year, so the most recent model available with much less mileage than my car. Warranty til 03/18, vs. no warranty on my car.

My heads were replaced under warranty last summer, but they were bare GM heads with parts separate, so if I keep my car I'm getting heads/cam done soon. Katech Torquer 110.

So boils down to a much newer Z that I would keep stock, and perhaps buy a GM extended warranty, or mod what I have.

I can't get GMPP. I tried last year. Unavailable after 3 year 36,000 runs out.

Mine were out of spec and replaced under warranty. Please...I don't want to turn this into a valve guide thread.

Put the $3-4k into a nice heads/cam setup and enjoy your car. Even $16k for the same car is just silly. If you are going to be dropping $60k on a car, wait 5 months and grab a c7z.

16k for a much newer car with 3 years of warranty is worth it. In the 3rd year you could extend for another 2 as well. 5 years of worry free is worth 18k to me.

If the dealer says no to 16k write him the check and bring the title with you. He will take it. Worst case he says no and maybe you can sweeten the deal by extending the warranty at purchase for 2k more.

Let me know how it works out.
