Default LS7 Wiggle Test DIY Alternate

I deleted all the content in this post because it was out of date.

Great job.

Of course when they measure .021" and not .002", we have a problem no matter how you measure.

Great write up Hib. I knew I didn't have the equipment or ability to do that stuff myself so have been trying to find somebody who does do it. Here in the Charlotte area there is a a company that removes the heads and then sends them to a machine shop to measure the guides and do any of the machine work that might be needed. There are two problems with this. First, is paying the cost of removing/installing the heads and measuring the guides if there is nothing wrong; Second, I have no idea if the guys at the machine shop are doing the measurements correctly.

On another note I just noticed the threads on the LS7 valve problems have disappeared from the Sticky section. Isn't that where the Forum DIY you mentioned was located?

Bill

Thanks, I enjoyed reading your article. Unless I misunderstood something, it's very disappointing that the replacement heads GM ponied up were so out of spec. As a guy with a 08 c6 z06, still under gmpp warranty til October , I don't know if I would even let them put their replacement heads on my car unless they let me do the same as you did and have my head expert confirm their quality prior to install. Pretty frustrating to even have to deal with this on a nearly 80k msrp car.

"Disappointing"?
"Frustrating"?

I hate to say this but, at this point, anyone installing a new set of production LS7 heads should have the valve seat run-out checked, first.

This is not to say that all the new cylinder heads on the shelf are bad but it is to say that, without checking, there is some risk that the new heads will be like the old heads.

.021?!
Ouch!

Can you PM me the wiggle test data from all 16 of your valves? Also, some info about mileage on the car, modifications if any and how the test was done?

Hib

I don't think anyone can deny that you have put a huge intellectual effort into this project. Your indepth unredacted article should be mandatory reading for all LS7 owners.

Thanks for going the extra mile for the CF members by working with the moderators and CF rules with your attempt to get this important information disclosed.

The only thing I can find wrong with Hib's post is that he spelled wiggle with 2 letter I's in the first paragraph. Great research here..... Thank you

If he chooses to make corrections, he could also correct this "already already" as seen here.

"members who are interested in the subject have probably already already read the first version."

I also want to than Hib, for all his time and effort putting this together and sharing it here.

There is nothing in Corvetteforum rules that would prohibit posting an unexpurgated version of your original wiggle test and the pictures illustrating it in this thread. That's why I invited you online and offline to post it here.

Bill
The thread was sticky for a month. Moderators routinely unstick threads after they get some age on them and activity tails off in them. That's to try and keep the sticky threads from overwhelming a section.

Actually, the thread Bill was referencing was not closed. Here's the link:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-test-diy.html

The thread Hib referenced was closed because it degenerated into personal attacks against Hib and other site users, despite cautions to get back on topic.
