I had Lethal performance rebuild my heads replacing the guides, exhaust valves, install high lift springs, polish and inspect everything else. GM won't pay for your motor if you drop a valve. Period.

I had my zo6 in at horse power additcs for a cam and springs told them to check valve guides was told they were really bad so I had the heads redone gm would not pay for the valve guide issue because it was done by a third party not gm I wouldn't of even known until they would of destroyed my engine if I didn't take it in for a cam

Bummer but sounds about right. Besides I'm not sure what GM would do to "fix" them anyways. I'm glad I had upgraded parts put in (bronze valve guides and stainless steel exhaust valves). Just sucks it was on my own dime.

How do I file a complaint?

Just saw a 09 Z06 that I really got all fired up about. Then I read all 18 pages of this post. Sure makes me question dropping $40,000+.

Just factor in the cost of getting the heads repaired into the cost of the car. When the heads are done you can start to enjoy the car with peace of mind.

After reading this thread I am a bit concerned. My 07 z06 has 40k miles...39k of them babied miles as my father commuted in the car to work 100% highway. I did a two day track day last year and planning on 4-6 days this year. Car is 100% stock and regular oil changes done. Any advice?

Refresh the heads of if you feel lucky just "bless" yourself every session.

I filed a complaint just now. My car at 37xxx miles already had an engine replaced before I owned it at 22xxx miles. For me it's just a matter of time, and I know it.

Hopefully I can get the funds together for AI or Reher-Morrison (Darin Morgan) to rework my heads.

From that point it took about 1/3 of a mile without PS or PB to get the car stopped in a safe run off area. I would have much preferred trying to steer a Cobalt without PS than a Vette with wide tires. My in car video which is posted on the forum captures it nicely.

Same here. Mine went with 16,750 miles, albeit EXTREMELY hard miles. Been full-time autocross car from day 1 home from the museum.

Hoping to fire up the new engine this weekend. Heads/Cam/Fast LSXR 102 Intake and 102 throttle body/Tune/Long tube catless headers. Car will be down to 2,900 pounds shortly too.

Has anyone concluded that all years are affected. My 06 has 22k on it and it runs good but I swear I hear valve or lifter tick when the radio is off and just driving Dow the road. Not sure if this is an issue or not or I just hear the engine more because the car has no sound deadening.

I am worried but I am not in a financial state to put money into this car like that.

Anyone else hear faint ticking while just cruising?

You need to have it checked. Don't know where you live but the wiggle test will tell you that you're probably OK or probably not OK. If it's probably "not OK" then have the more expensive, more accurate test done. My son's car has been bad at about 30-35 K miles(three times!). Mines been bad at about 25K. My son is on his 3rd engine (thank goodness for extended warrantees).

I have the same ticking sound that You can hear with the radio off. It is supper unsettling, but I have put 10k on it since the ticking started.

If you have the warrantee then you really don't want to get a new engine. The engines are very good, it's the heads that are the Achilles heal. If you don't then why gamble on 20k $ versus 2-3K $ and peace of mind. Get it measured!
