Default MSD Atomic AirForce Intake Manifold

MSD Atomic AirForce Intake Manifold
Any you guys order one?
When you’re serious about power for your LS or new LT1 engine, call in the AirForce! The all-new MSD Atomic AirForce intake manifold delivers improved airflow and distribution to improve the performance of stock and modified engines.

The unique bell-mouthed runner entrances maximize airflow and minimize shrouding - all while optimizing the available plenum volume for an unobstructed flow path over opposing runners. The polymer molded 2-piece design allows for easy access to the runners for porting.

Atomic AirForce accepts an OEM or 103mm throttle body as well as stock or aftermarket fuel rails including MSD’s Atomic LS EFI system. The intake bolts on and is supplied with new gaskets and hardware for a direct bolt-on package.

Features:
Lingenfelter test shows 36 HP AT THE REAR WHEELS over the competition as tested on a LPE L28 Camaro.
Polymer material resists heat soak and minimizes weight.
103mm Throttle bore allows the use of large throttle bodies for greater air flow.
Direct flow path runner design promotes maximum airflow.
Allows for the use of stock fuel rails, aftermarket rails including the Atomic LS EFI.
The two-piece manifold design provides
convenient access to the runners for porting.
Designed using Computational Fluid Dynamic Modeling to create optimal plenum volume and efficient air flow paths.
Models available for LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6, LS7, L99 and the new LT1 engine.

I ordered one from Summit, there were 6 other backorders there. I was told March 20th by Eric at MSD, with Summit getting the first 40. They will not drop ship from MSD, so the part will ship directly from the distributor. Early April sounds right.

The only downside I heard about was that the runners are not removable, like the LSXR so you can't easily port match or change runners depending on your setup (long, medium or short runners)

Can they be painted and sanded to look like a factory intake?

Good question. When I get one I'm interested in removing the red lettering on the MSD. I don't care for it.

Even if that manifold gave 60 rear wheel over my FAST, no way in hell I would buy it. Ugliest thing you ever saw. I will run no passenger seat and race gas to get the power rather bolt on that........ That.......... Give me a carb instead

I agree that looks matter, like, if it were molded in Pink, that would be a no go for me. But there is paint for that. I agree that it looks worse than the fast, but the benefits outweigh the downsides, IMO

Are these HP gains with or without a tune using this manifold?

I would buy one if results are significant over the Fast 102.

Looks like the MSD unit can utilize the stock fuel rails, whereas the Fast requires new fuel rails and gas lines, so a few more $$'s can be saved.

Default MSD Manifold

Pricing is similar and I think it is coming out in later March - see Summit Racing online.

So far, the only preliminary testing done was with a modified LS7...likely mod'ed to the point that it needed more airflow than the stock intake could provide.

I've been wondering if that intake manifold will make any improvement to an LS7 running stock cam and heads.

Of the people I trust to ask LS7 questions, one says he believes there will not be a big enough gain to be worth the cost of the manifold. The other had no opinion.

I've been toying with the idea of ordering one to test on my '12.

What do you folks think?

In an LS7 with stock cam and heads, do you think there will be a useful improvement?

I'm certainly in for the results. My question is, how many HP on a stock heads/cam car is considered "worth it"? That means something different to everyone. There's plenty of people dropping $400-500 on CAI's, and I imagine this manifold may produce similar results or better on a stock car...but I could be entirely wrong. If it does produce those kinds of gains, I'm sure there would be some ineterst.
