Z06 ticking sound from engine
Hello friends!!
Just got my new baby an 08 z06. Long story short. Got her from a Chevy dealer and they stated the tick was the #7 coil pack. I changed that with correct replacement but tick is still there. It is not an exhaust leak tick as I JUST had longtubes and lg motorsports exhaust installed.
Heres the strange part. When shifting 1st -4th the tick is there. AS SOON as I shift to 5th lo and behold absolutely NO TICKING. Lastly, there seems to be no loss of power in any gear due to the ticking. It sounds electrical. And after having a tune last night we removed the skip shift setting also but no effect. Not sure if related, just getting all the facts out there
Any definite advice on what this could be?
Thanks in advance!

This has been asked probably 100,000 times at this point.
In general, the LS7 "tick" is normal, as the engine is just loud.
However, if it sounds like metal on metal grinding, that might signify an issue.

Awesome thanks Rob. Good to know a TICK was made by design They shouldv've put that on page one of the manual so people don't spend money and time for labor and parts trying to take car of their new to them z06.

Congrats on your new-to-you Z.
Just hope that tick isn't an early warning sign for a dropping valve.
If after so many miles you still don't feel that the ticking sound is normal, have the heads checked to make sure the valves are within specs. Lots of unlucky owners out there that had valve issues, and it all started with a ticking sound.
I'd rather err on the safe side. Wouldn't you?
Have fun and congrats again.

Just stopped by my dealership. They had no service history so work must've been performed elsewhere so no idea if the valves have been addressed. Will get someone to check that out pronto! Thanks everyone.

Have some one that knows what they are doing check the valve guide clearance and listen to your motor.
Post up a video so we can hear it and advise you.
Looks like you are missing the front spoiler.

210k miles. From engine bay. The sound being there from 1st-4th then completely and utterly disappearing in 5th gear is what is throwing me!! That is the key to this particular puzzle. It really does completely stop in 5th gear even if I get back on it some in 5th..nada no tick at all.

As in 210,000 miles? Wow.... When you said electrical ticking I though maybe it was the dash, mine (I think most or all do this, too) has a quick electrical ticking noise in the dash. I have read that it is normal and my Father said his car does it as well. Sorry I couldn't help.
