Clutch Noise When Clutch Fully Pressed
I have a 2008 Z06 and just had a Mantic 9000 clutch installed. It drives great, feels great and grabs great, but there is a noise when the clutch is all the way down on the floor. The best I can describe is that it sounds like brake pads and rotors after sitting in the rain and working rust off. It goes away after I lift the clutch pedal an inch or so, and feels great otherwise. The shop has done quite a few and NEVER had this issue. Wanted to see if anyone knew anything before we rip this thing back out. Setup included the Mantic 9000 spring disc twin with their supplied slave/bearing assembly. Any ideas or does anyone know what it could be? I contacted Jeff, the rep, who has been very helpful in the past. Thanks for any ideas!

Yeah usually when you load up the bearing is when you hear it. It's sort of the only hing that makes sense. I'd listen to it with a stethoscope before you pull it just to make sure it's not something else.

We had it on the lift today and it is definitely coming from the clutch area... I suspected the bearing, but unfortunately it might just be a bad out of the box situation since everything was OK during the install and looked/felt normal. I'm just pissed that if we replace the bearing, we won't know if it fixes anything until it's back together. I'm waiting on the Mantic rep to call me back.

Yeah I know that's a bad situation. I know me personally I always spin new throw out bearings and listen for noise. Might not be audible and went bad after. But a good check. If it is the bearing you should be able to tell by listening/feeling it. Did it do it right away or after some driving?

Do these clutches require shimming or could it be something other than the throw out bearing/slave assembly? I'm sure that Mantic will take care of my slave/bearing but do they also reimburse the shop with the labor to replace the parts? it's not a simple install as most of you know!

The noise comes on at about an inch or less from the floor and is does not come on gradually. It's on and off... Noise is apparent from the floor to at most an inch from the floor.

Chattering has almost gone completely away on mine with some miles, but the noise is not. I'm waiting to talk to the rep before I put anymore miles on it in case something fails. You may also learn to better drive it and avoid a lot of the chatter also. It takes time to get use to how it likes to be driven with the lighter setup.

I have read other comments about it taking 250 and up to 500 miles to break it in. Again I have 3 problems with it. 1. When starting out in first gear it will often shutter at contact. 2. When in neutral and I push the clutch in it makes the same noise you reference above. 3. I can hear chattering all the time. I'm like you about not wanting to drive to much until I find out what the hell is going on. We had beautiful weather here in Pittsburgh PA. today and I couldn't drive my car..

Pulled the clutch out today, nothing obvious, but did see some fine metal shavings on the underside of the bell housing. Mantic supplied a new clutch kit and we are replacing ALL of the parts, with the exception of the pilot bearing which is super smooth and showed absolutely no signs of issue, and are a pain to mess with getting out. Clutch is in, bell housing is on and we are putting the drive train back up this morning. Should have a verdict this afternoon!

Swapped the clutch out this weekend. No obvious issues with the clutch itself, but did find some metal shavings in the bell housing (VERY small). We suspect that the slave may have been bad, but either way she's back on the road and feeling/sounding great!
