Default Great Parking Lot Encounter

I took the Z06 out for a nice weekend drive a few weeks ago. Had to stop by the store afterward for my post-drive beer.

As I was walking out of the store, I saw a new BMW i8 parked near my car in the nether region of the lot. It's an interesting car - $140,000, pretty quick, turbo 3 cylinder plus electric motors, 0 to 60 MPH close to our cars, several seconds behind to 100 and 150 MPH though.

Anyway, it was full of guys probably in their late twenties, staring at me as I walk up to my car. I was just waiting for it, "how do you like your American POS", something along those lines. I completely misjudged the guys though. The driver said: "that is the only car I've seen around here that scares the %&# out of me - beautiful, absolutely bad@$$".

It put a massive smile on my face. It's really amazing how much respect these cars get sometimes.

BMW looked just like this:

And this is what "scared" them:

It's nice when that happens and guys can talk about others rides without the putdown BS.

Great pictures of your beautiful ride. It appears we have similar tastes in rides.

Absolutely. Oh we definitely have similar tastes. I've seen your car here before. Beautiful, you know the secret with red - that show car shine. Looks like you may be about 0.25 inches lower than me, give or take.

Thanks. RLSebring (forum member and vendor) did the custom black headlights. Low beam bulbs are 8000K from JWM (another vendor),

Hahaha. I honestly didn't know what the i8 was or could do, but I told them it looked futuristic. I'll give BMW some respect for their cars.

Performance wise my car isn't far beyond stock, so they probably are afraid of us. You guys have some monsters.

Oh, snap. Red does work really well, it's just tough. Black accents (still more coming), carbon fiber, and most importantly, show car shine.

Very nice! Chrome or highly polished spyders look excellent on it.

Are the halos attached to the chrome rings on the outside or the inside? Any chance of a close up pic with the lights off? I wanna do something like this myself but I'm concerned it may look weird with the lights off.

I appreciate it, thinking about polishing the wheels.

Both chrome rings were removed with all halos glued to the black bezel. It think it looks "different" but necessarily bad. A few pics:

Halos off:

Halos on:

Halos and low beam on. I like this one the best because somehow the combination of light makes those small raised parts of the front bezel glow like a light bar:
