If you stripped out the hex head you need to go to a hardware or car parts store and buy a set of torqs bit sockets. Hammer the socket that is the closet size the the stripped head hole. Hammer it in all the way. The hammering will loosen the locktite and the points of the torqs bit will bite into the stripped socket hole.

Just remove the caliper. I did that instead of fussing around with those stupid bolts.

I would use an impact driver to remove them if they are not rounded.

It's already stripped so I purchased a set of Rennsteig Dual-edged (Easy Out) Screw Extractors to see if I can get it out.

I will report back on my success or failure.

Haven't removed mine in 56,000 miles and 7 or 8 sets of pads. Remove the bolts holding it to the caliper bracket and change pads that way.

When reinstalling bolts, use a bit of anti-seize......the bolt will still be tight, but it will increase the chances of successful removal the next time around.

If you cant get a torx bit in there to get it out. Take caliper off the spindle mount. From the inside (where pads sit) spray some penetrating lube around that pin. Let it soak in. pry off the sleeve surrounding the pin. then try using some vise grips to back out the bolt till you can grab the head.
Worst case will be drilling the center of the bolt out then using a easy out to remove it.
If you have to drill the bolt, use a bit a few sizes smaller than the threads. This will relive some tension on the threads and make it a little easier to back out.

I had this issue happen to me a few years ago.. If I were you I would leave it alone and just pull the caliper. I was able to get mine threaded out some, so I was able to get a big pipe wrench on it after the head was stripped. Good luck with whatever path you decide to take, but I wouldn't flirt with disaster lol

Just leave it alone. A few years ago I broke off a Torx bit in one of my bolts. They will not come out easily if cold and you could possibly damage the caliper trying to get it out. When they are hot from being used heavily they tend to loosen on their own so I wouldn't recommend using antiseize as that might make them more likely to back out permitting the loss of a padlet or hitting the back side of the wheel spokes

Hi!

You need this tool "stud extractor set". It worked for me several times on these stupid bolts and you can use it on any other broken screw.

How to use: Drill the hole with the provided drill thats fits the screw in the middle (biggest as possible;-), hammer the bolt that fits the drill in (easy), put the adapter on the bolt, take the wrench and screw it out. It works fine every time, perfekt tool. It is called HAZET 841/25 or TOOLCRAFT 820932, or similar from other manufactuer. Buy not the cheapest, spent money on good tool, it will last!!
