I had 69k on my 2008 when I sold it. For the most part all I did was tires/gas/oil. I did rotors/pads at 38k, shocks at 45k and some bolt on parts but other than that the car held up really well.
I would say it developed some rattles over that time but nothing major. Single biggest improvement as far as longevity went was the Michelin PS II ZP tires. tripled the mileage on tire life over the Goodyears.
New owner already has our headers and a nitrous system on the car and last I heard still running great.

117,xxx on my early 07. Has held up really well, new shocks, new shifter, some paintwork/headlights to fix road rash, exhaust valves rattle occasionally and clutch slave is getting weak but all smiles other than that. Drivetrain is all stock.
Not my DD though, that's a C4 that's about to turn 190k.

I'm sure it's a real issue. But I will say there are FAR more people that did head work "just in case" and most that reported "out of spec" valve guides did not have failing engines. Who knows, maybe some of these engines will run for 200K on some busted and worn guides, lol.

There is no doubt there are many holding up, there is also no doubt they are not half motor the ls6 was. Or even Ls3.

At 88K I did a H/C/I on my 07 just because I was about out of warranty and wanted more power too. That was the plan from the day I drove it off Kerbeck's showroom floor. I had no symptoms, noises etc that led me to tearing it down, just a planned point in time.
I sent my heads out to WCCH for measurements and rebuild. Measurements were taken and there wasn't one valve guide outside of GM's spec. Some of the intakes were getting close though. I have 104K miles on it now and in another 4k miles she's scheduled for her 2nd wiggle test. (The first one was accomplished in 10K miles showed no wear).
FWIW, there's been no rattles, major mechanical problems or unacceptable headaches from day one. All around, it's been the most pleasurable vehicle I've ever owned.

Obviously the only criteria you are basing your statement on is the valve guide issue, and that issue can be addressed. The ls7 is an awesome motor and I'll take my fixed heads ls7 over a ls3 or ls6 every time.

Cylinder wall thickness. It was a **** poor design. They make some really nice windows in the block often. All other ls motors can handle more power, more boost, more n20. This is why guys get resleaved Ls2s, 3s..ect for bigger cubes and leave the Ls7 block at the junk yard
