Default Another head job

So it begins, I'm going to pull the heads and have the guides replace along with the exhaust valves. I haven't talked to them yet, but I will sending them to American Heritage for the full meal deal. I am just getting started, but I will be dropping the entire drive train out of the bottom of the car. I don't do well leaning over a fender for a great length of time and you never know what else I may do while I have it all out.

The car is fairly clean. It's a 2008 with 6700 miles on it. It's never been in the rain. That will make this ordeal a little more pleasant.

Divider plate is out. Man there is a lot of bolts holding that thing on. Should be able to get started a little earlier tomorrow evening now that I have decided to do this. Will drain the fluids, evac the AC , remove the shifter and get after all the wiring and hoses. I am also going to build a stand to support the drive train and it will also allow me to separate the motor and bell housing. You know incase I need to put in a different clutch or something. Lol. My wife thinks I'm just doing the heads for the safety factor.

I wish I had a 2 post lift. You might want to think about doing the clutch with the whole drivetrain out depending on your future plans with the car.

Didn't get anything done today. Went by the tuners shop to discuss cam,and add ons. Won't need much this time to reach my goals. Should be a nice driver with decent power. Will post more tomorrow.

Why the heck would you pull the whole drivetrain to do the heads??!? Seems crazy. It's so simple from the top.

Cylinder Head R&R on a C6z06 is a relatively easy procedure but in all fairness that is a beautiful home garage with a 2 post lift in it so why not pull it all apart and start replacing things if one has the time and the will.

If your going with our ported heads and a decent cam (and other supporting mods) then do a clutch while you have it out or else you will soon be putting a new one in. Also check that the RVT on the covers hasnt started to leak/seap. Sometime they leak/seap even at an early age.

I know pulling the heads is a simple procedure, I will likely be putting in a new clutch, headers and a few other things. I don't do well leaning over fenders for long periods of time, plus its not that bad pulling the drivetrain with a lift.

That's an awesome looking shop you have there, I would take advantage of it too if I had one like that. I real good buddy of mine lived in Victoria for a few years, used to go down there and visit a bit we were real big into sport bikes and dealt with Darrin at Dales fun center a lot. Are you having Pat G do the tuning by any chance?

Yes I'm having Pat do the tune. I talked to him last night and we decided on a cam and a few other details. Can't wait to get my baby back on the road. This is my first Vette, and my first LS motor to work on. I have been a SBC guy for a long time and I'm eager to delve into this thing and learn a few thing along the way.

Ok. A little more done today. I removed the front passenger side rear inner fender. The ecm is located behind the dry sump tank. There is two bundles of wires attached to the side. There is a red tab facing the outside of the car that must be raised straight up. I used a 90* screw driver to pry it up and then the whole outside piece will raise up allowing you to remove the plug. I also used a mirror to locate the red tab. That was helpful. The dry sump tank is the silver thing on the right side in this picture.

This is the red latch that must be raised to get the connector off of the ecm.

Found some magnetic material on the drain plug. Extremely fine shavings. Motor only has 6800 miles on it. I'm hoping it's only cylinder wall material.

Removed the dry sump lines and drained radiator. Make sure to plug lines to keep them clean. Also plug oil pan holes.

Remove the plug on passenger of trains mission. This an inline connection. My sen sei Kurt Decker said the rest of the connections can stay on the transmission and the will all come out with the drive train. The picture is looking from the back of the car.

I wouldn't worry about the shavings if the are super fine. Looks normal to me.
