Default I hate looking for a clutch! Too many options.

my car - 09' Z06 with the LPE 660 kit. Current clutch is Exedy GT04SD and it's on its way out. Still holds but at high RPM with quick shifts is "softer" with it's engagement now vs the hard clamping force it once had.

LPE is telling me that they recommend their ZR1 modified clutch kit for my car. They say it's rated for my cars HP/TQ. I'm leaning towards it as it's cheaper than a lot of other clutches and I am really tired of the stiffness that the Exedy has. It would be nice to have a stock-like clutch pedal again!

I don't drag race but I do drive my car hard at times and I do track (DE's) my car a few times a year. It needs to at least be tough enough for that.

Anyone have advice or comments about this? Is this clutch really going to be a good purchase? Will it hold up or just wear out in short order?

I really don't know anything about clutches and it all seems like snake oil to a certain degree.

Help a brother out please!

If you don't drag race or use drag radials, the ZR1 clutch should work well for you. Its cheaper than most, stock pedal feel, quiet, and can withstand reasonable abuse.

If you really plan to abuse your clutch, sticky tires, launches etc, get an RPS or Mccleod. Ive had my RPS twin for 5 yrs, 20,000 miles including 10 second passes, track days, dynos and highway pulls all that time. Just don't go with the new brand on the block, go with an established brand, this isn't snake oil.

Whatever clutch you choose, spend the money on a brand new GM slave and a remote bleeder. Bleed fresh Motul 600 through every spring and you will have a healthy clutch and hydraulics for years to come. I see so many guys spend $3k on a clutch just to have to yank the trans again to replace the $150 slave right after. Do it all proper once, its cheaper that way.

Mantic 9000 from ECS without question. This clutch actually engages smoother and with less effort than an OEM LS7 clutch. Holds way more power than a h/c LS7 can make as well. Possibly the best mod I've done to date, I had an RPS twin lite prior that was a nightmare in traffic, heavy on-off switch basically. Have about 20,000 miles on this clutch now without issues; tons of rush hour traffic, 1/4 racing, roll racing and track days without one hiccup or slip. Also, not sure why, but the fluid doesn't seem to get very dirty. I just checked the fluid in the reservoir using the Ranger method and after just one flush it was perfectly clear. With the stock and RPS and I'd have to flush it several times before it would clear up.

McLeod RST. Don't fall for the FOTM clutches. RPS had great reviews but I installed 2 of their clutches in my C5 and they were both garbage. RPS has since discontinued that clutch, but I still wouldn't trust them after misrepresenting the clutch I bought. My $1k clutch ended up costing me more than twice that after doing the job twice. I was tempted to try Mantic but once bitten, twice shy. McLeod has been putting twin discs in LSx cars for 15+ years.

I know you mentioned you dont drag race but my ls9x (zr1 clutch) from katech lasted 10k miles and 72 drag strip passes before I hot lapped it one too many times and smoked it.

Went with the Mantic 9000 now and so far so good with 20 drag strip passes down and about 3k miles....only a slight increase in pedal firmness. Happy with my decision. Price was fair as well.

Had a LS9 clutch, wasn't happy at all with it. Went mantic, and now have 15k+ miles at 1000+rwhp zero issues. Holds everything I throw at it.

Obviously I would recommend a Monster, however whichever way you go, stay clear of the LS9 clutch. They are not structurally sound for a performance clutch.

Feel free to give us a call and we can give you some advise on the right setup, for what you have, and what you want out of a clutch. (817-750-2000)

Default I hate looking for a clutch! Too many options.

After reading many other threads on clutches over the past couple weeks, I ordered a Mantic from ECS yesterday. Seen very very few people that have not been 110% satisfied with it.

RXT or Mantic is the only thing I would run myself. RXT has been amazing for me soo far (7k miles 565rwhp) and is cheap in comparison to all the other wazoo clutches out there. Very cheap to rebuild too.

I've heard a whole lot of problems with the LS9 so I wouldn't even go there myself.

Centerforce DYAD. They are lighter than stock, but not so light they are hard to drive. The friction material is nice to drive on the street with an easy engagement point. They hold up to 1300 ft-lbs of torque and are priced within most of the "good" clutches on the market.

We have used them on big HP street/strip cars and a number of road racers with zero issues.

Something to think about. To top it off they are done by a big enough company that is going to stand behind their products for years to come.

Mantic 9000 has a much smoother release than the LS9 clutch. Mantic has a completely OEM feel, LS9 felt aftermarket by comparison

Seems like there's Mantic 9000, then there's everything else.
