[Z06] C6 Z's and depreciation

Sigh every time I want to sell the c6z for something else I just can't get over a 7.0 liter naturally aspirated V8 that revs to 7000rpm in a 3,1xx lbs package
Leasing a new Stingray despite the bad money factor actually makes more sense to me due to more tax write off advantages...but I just love the damn c6 z06 lol
If I wanted a car that holds its value or even appreciates I would have picked up a nice 996 / 997 turbo a year ago

Friend paid $28k for a very nice 2LZ silver 2006. ~30k miles. Another buddy just grabbed one for $31k.
$40k better be a 09-10 with very low miles and loaded out.

All I'm saying is that a person who is going to spend north of 40 grand is more than likely going to look for a newer car. Not everyone wants the highest performing corvette available. A 460 horse C7 is a nice car.
But I'll be happy with the C6Z or GS and I know I'll find one under 35 grand that I'll be happy with.
Enjoy your C6Z........it's an incredible car!

I for one don't care much about how much value my car can hold as I drive all my cars but at the same time I wouldn't have minded paying $10k less for my 07z

Prices are coming down, like always. People are looking at asking prices, thinking that is what they are selling for, but they continue to go down.

I bought my 08Z06 to drive. I wanted one since it debuted and just had to wait till the kids grew up before I bought one.
Its a drivers car and that's what I love to do with it. The price was less of a concern to me than the other attributes that attract most of us to this generations Z model. The cars lines, wide hips, slippery look, fantastic handling, glorious '427' with gobs of torque down low and power throughout the curve, light weight, retro details and all around 'bad ***' feel of the car makes it worth every cent I paid. I couldn't care less if I woke up tomorrow and they were selling for $1000.00. Mines not for sale and won't be. I'll let my investment accounts earn me money and let the Z do what it was made for...

Looks to me like the C7 GS has impacted C6 prices, causing them to drop further.
There are a ton of C6Z and C6 GS cars on the market right now.
It's very easy to find one 35 thousand dollars and less.
I really don't see why anyone would pay over 40 grand for any C6 now since new C7 cars are around 50.
I saw a 07 C6Z go for 23,900 with 106,000 miles recently.
There is a 2012 Grand Sport 3lt with 98,000 miles in Texas right now for 28,900.
The C6 is an old car now. Prices are coming down.

Just bought my 07 for $35k with 48k miles in Southern California. This was one of the cheapest ones i could find in a 100 mile radius. There was one at a dealership with almost 200k miles for less than $20k but it sold almost immediately.

I'm not going to get into an internet argument over car prices. I'll just say this....I have an 06 Z. I will not sell it for less than $40k . And right now, its not for sale. On another note, I think if I tried to sell it, my sons would disown me....lol.

This is funny... I have an 09 CG Z06, 39k miles and listed it on CL just for the hell of it at 39k. Not a SINGLE call, text, or email.
Better TR6060 transmission and all, nano-coated, brand new rear tires... and not a single bite. Oh well. For me, I wouldn't TOUCH an 06-08 and the C7 is just too damn electronic for my taste.
To each their own I guess.

I dunno. The C6Z doesn't have an identity crisis like much of the Euro performance cars do. It's raw. It's NA. It's a track car in spirit and in the flesh. But most importantly, it is the best version of the iconic shape and styling that Corvettes were known for.
If the new C8 looks a lot like the C7, but also has a mid-engine setup - presumably bolstering its performance significantly...what value then does the C7 have? It just seems the C7 will have an identity crisis when the C8 comes around. I feel like the C7 will be a lot like the C4 - the styling was not timeless. The performance was not any better than the previous generation and it certainly didn't match the C5 performance and styling. There simply was nothing that it offered that its ancestors and predecessor couldn't offer better. That's how I personally feel about the C7 Corvette.
The interior of the C7 was in fact an improvement but all of that was at a little cost to weight. Apparently, this weight issue is significant in the C7Z though the supercharger probably accounts for half the difference.

I didn't post it to sell it. I just posted it to see "what would happen" and get a read on the market locally. And here... We don't really get winter. Ever

I can kind of relate to this topic. I was comparing the C7 Z51 to the C6 Z06 this spring trying to decide if I wanted either or to keep my C5. I guess it comes down to your goals with the vehicle. My primary goal was engine performance N/A, aftermarket support, power potential and ability to maintain some sort of retail value down the road. I chose the C6 Z06 for those reasons, and decided to take the hit on my C5 - huge list of new parts that didn't help the overall value much since it was not a Z06.
I felt if history repeats itself the C6 Z06 will have a slower depreciation rate than a C7 Z51 but that is just a guess. The C6 Z06 is a car I can really get into and enjoy modified. The car I bought was already modified but a bit more tweaking and tuning really woke this thing up into beast mode. After more tweaking and tuning I'm finally getting close to 30 mpg on the freeway and no compromise to the performance at WOT.
I did like the C7 Z51's electronics, front end looks and overall feel better, but that wasn't high on my list of importance. I must also mention that at the time a 20K miles 2015 Z51 was going for $57,000 and a 36k miles non-modified 2009 C6 Z06 for $38,000. I bought a 26,000 miles, modded (heads, cam intake, Kooks headers...list of good parts), 2009 Z06 for $42,000. How do the prices compare today? I don't know as I'm happy with the car I chose for the goals I have for a car. I guess I could look into that.

I think the c6 z's will stabilize at 32 to 45k. Depending on year condition mileage.
I bought mine new sticker 80k. Picked it up with 17 miles for 60k. It's a 2009 bought in fall of 2009. I have been going back and forth on the c7 z. I can easily afford it but it just doesn't appeal to me like me c6 z did when I first saw it and still does.
If you get hung up on depreciation check out how much a BMW m5 from 2009 has depreciated. And BMW wouldn't discount much on those.
Corvettes aren't so bad.
