T-6060 5th and 6th gear ratio change
I am looking to change my 5th and 6th gear T-6060 gear ratios to .80 and .63 along with either 3.73 or 3.90 rear. Currently I have the LPE 660 HP package Fast 102/NW 102; GT21 cam and 4.10 gears and not happy with overall performance on street and road course at the drag strip its good just tricky to launch on drag radials without spinning. I have to pull the transmission anyway due to 2nd gear synchro issue. Looking for feedback from anyone who has down this change either positive or negative. GM has gone to this setup on the new Z/28.

No experience here but I was curious so I put the gearing in a calc
C6Z06 1-4, .80 5th .63 6th, 3.91

And here it is with ZR1 1-4, .80 5th .63 6th, 3.91
http://xse.com/leres/bin/gearratio?t...rofile=&wheel=
C6Z06 1-4, .80 5th .63 6th, 3.91
Code:
Gear MPH @ 7k 1 53.4 2 79.8 3 109.3 4 142.1 5 177.7 6 225.6
And here it is with ZR1 1-4, .80 5th .63 6th, 3.91
Code:
Gear MPH @ 7k 1 62.1 2 88.3 3 117.5 4 142.1 5 177.7 6 225.6

Several people have done this, but how is that going to help drag, street or road course? Are you hitting 5th gear? I don't' shift to 5th until 180mph, so I can't see how a lower 5th would help any of those situations.

You must have a higher rear gear ratio than the stock 3.42, say a 2.93.
Or you are shifting at 7750 RPM with the stock 3.42 rear gear.
Or you have some really large diameter rear tires.
My stock Z06 shifts at 7000 RPM into 5th gear at 162 MPH(but I normally shift at 6800 RPM at 158 MPH, so I don't accidently hit the rev limiter).
For me to hit 180 MPH(which I've never done), I would be in 5th at 5750 RPM.

28" rears, shifting around 7300-7400.
