Default Why would one replace oil pump at 5k miles on an 07 Z.

Carfax on a car showed the oil pump was changed at 5k? Why would this ever happen?

Also, the car now has 8k, i am thinking about buying it. It is now cammed, supercharged with headers. Amazing condition however, i am wondering if maybe it was entered in carfax incorrectly and maybe was just a oil change?

Nor sure if you can trust Carfax. Go to a dealer and see if they can check the service history by VIN.

Most people who add that kind of stuff never push them any harder than the stock car. It is mostly about talk and a few seconds blast in the lower gears to impress their buddies. Running it as hard as stock power levels would permit or their new power levels would permit rarely happens. Of the few that do a fair number of cars end up in the wrecking yard and the remainder are driven by people who know how to drive them safely at the limit. Just look at all the videos of guys pulling out of cruise ins tromping the throttle and running into a tree, a fire plug or a telephone pole.

Does it indicate this was done under warranty? There have been some pump failures over the years and there may be a few threads about them. Things do break from time to time.

Maybe, maybe not.

IMO, one can't be too careful in this potential purchase situation...

the oil pumps fail early on some cars and then wipe out the engine. if there is even the slightest drop in pressure you should not run the engine. the entire system needs to be flushed out and i would also upgrade the timing chain during the repair
