New Guy from New York
Hey guys, I am a new member from Long Island, New York. I bought a bone stock, one owner, clean 2006 Lemans Blue z06 with 12k miles in September. I had been lurking on here for months learning about them. Seems like there are a lot of good members on this forum so I look forward to the forum. So far i have outfitted a mild to wild switch that i made myself and I am looking forward to some black friday deals to get some new goodies and mild mods for it, so vendors i am looking forward some good deals.
so far the car has been great and i love it. Other vehicles include a 2007 trailblazer ss that i bought new with about 50k miles on it today. I also have a 2012 Honda CBR1000rr.
If i left anything out just ask.

Welcome aboard from another 06Z owner. You picked a fantastic color. Sounds like a nice low mileage, unmolested car. That's the way to buy them. I bought my 06, Victory Red, over 5 years ago with 2,500 miles on it. It's exceeded my expectations in every way, except for rear tire wear

I think i have a slightly different belief on the valve guides than most. I won't be tracking the car or drag racing it so i don't think my valve train will see that much abuse. Its rotational cycles. I will pull the plugs every few hundred miles and check them for cleanliness. Once i see some oil build up i will pull the heads. If the guides are that bad oil will definitely be getting in the cylinder. If there was a good way to check them without having to pull the valve springs off or the entire i would consider it but you kind of got what you got. I would be pissed if i pulled hte heads and everything checked out good.

1. Your guides can be out of spec enough to fatigue an exhaust valve w/ no excessive oil consumption.
2. Your guides can be out of spec enough to fatigue an exhaust valve w/ no excessive valve train noise.
3. Your guides can be out of spec enough to fatigue an exhaust valve w/ no detectable power loss.
4. A significant percentage of owners with failed engines were completely stock, never tracked or drag raced.
We are dealing with science, not good luck or good intentions. And if you haven't checked the guides, you have no clue as to their condition. And no, you do NOT need to pull the heads to know what you need to know.
And please don't become complacent because "you haven't heard of an engine failure in a while.." There is a very good reason for this - conscientious owners woke up and are proactively addressing this very real issue before it becomes catastrophic.
Just a friendly message from a fellow CF member that wants you to have a positive experience with your car.

congrats on the purchase. im from hauppauge l.i. i picked up an 08 z with 7800 miles on her about 3 weeks ago. its in the shop right now getting the heads upgraded. ive read too many cases with these heads to ignore it. if you have the cash i suggest doing the head work asap. heads are wayyy cheaper then a motor if the valve drops. jtm is doing the work and they come highly recommended from some friends. g/l with the car. enjoy it
