Default Z06 motor disaster averted

I bought my Z06 2 1/2 years ago with only 8000 miles on the clock. I did not know about the head issue until reading all the posts on the Forum afterward.
I kept thinking I have got to get these heads checked. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, now the car has 23000 miles on it. I was on the freeway in 5th gear about 65 mph when I downed shifted to 4th and punched it. Was pulling hard then check engine light came on blinking and I could feel a miss in the motor. I shut it down immediately and had it towed home. That next week I had it towed to American Heritage Performance for Kohle to look at it. Number 5 fuel injector stuck on and was flooding the cylinder. Wow, I think I dodged a bullet. While the car is there I'm having the heads done and a mild cam as well. It could have been worse with a valve coming lose and ruining the bottom end. It will be about 3 weeks before I get it back and I will feel more confident about the motor.
I got to tell you though I truly love and enjoy this car!

And you actually drive it in the rain??? just kidding. Great looking car and you will enjoy the new cam and heads for sure. Glad it wasn't a valve and just an injector. Let us know what kind of power it makes.

Never drive it in the rain. But the day to tow it over to AHP it came down in buckets. It just got a little wet.

I'm not sure I understand - are you saying the problem with the fuel injector could of also caused a valve to come loose and ruin the bottom end? I'm not a mechanic, but I don't believe the fuel injector problem would have caused you to drop a valve.

Great choice to have AHP work on your Z, I drove my previous Z06 400 miles to have him fix my heads.

No, the fuel injector would not cause a valve problem but it did put a scare into me that I thought I might had a valve guide issue. It was spitting gas out the exhaust mixed with carbon which at first looked like oil.

Yep, AHP knows what they're doing when it comes to the Z06 heads.

Are you going to have them check the valve guide tolerances? It would be nice to see what they say.

I'd have Kohle at least perform a wiggle test to truly see how lucky you are.

Thankfully I had AHP rework my heads while I still lived in South OC.

Flooding the cylinder with fuel could of lead to disaster that would of equaled a dropped valve, no lubrication, piston seizes to cylinder wall, and down hill from there. You done well!

Yep, cylinder wall wash down in that cylinder as well as fuel mixing and diluting the engine oil. Bad stuff

Forgive me for sounding ignorant as I'm no mechanic, and I understand that flooding the cylinder with fuel could have led to disaster, but I'm assuming that a disaster should not occur in that case since the computer is monitoring things like that and will shut things down to prevent a disaster, as it did in this case, or am I putting too much faith in that?

Yep, having the heads completely re-done by AHP. Not going to take a chance with the old heads. Doing a cam job as well. Be about 3 weeks before it's finished. Looking forward to the first 'test' drive.

The computer would shut it down as fast as it does when the motor drops a valve, which is way too late. In addition I would say the human hearing the racket steps in and shuts things down before the computer does.

They say there are no ignorant questions, but my experience the last twenty years or so would have me believe hat there are many ignorant answers.
