I agree with others, get a custom ground cam. Martin Smallwood just spec'd me a solid roller and the guy is very good. I also considered Ed Curtis (with FTI) for spec'ing a cam, also very good. I can get you Martins number if you want, just pm me. He'll work with you on every aspect of your combination and what you want to achieve.

If you're going to run higher compression, you might look into using e85 or a methanol injection. Anything over 11.8:1 and you're risking detonation with 93. I'm going with methanol injection because e85 is not very abundant in my area.

If you do decided to run a shelf grind, I'll have my BTR Stg 4 up for sale soon. Maybe even this weekend.

Ask Martin how much he learned from Tooley over the years

Pretty sure Brian learned a ton from someone else too.

Point is, a custom cam from someone that knows what they're doing will get the most out of a custom setup, optimizing compression, heads, intake etc.. I would never use a shelf grind for an engine running over 12.0:1 compression when most shelf grinds are optimized for pump gas.

Any idea when you will dyno?

What kind of power did you make on the BTR IV? What's your setup? Any idea on the compression stats?

It made 537rwhp on a Mustang dyno with stock heads and intake.

New setup is completely different, more compression, solid roller, shaft rockers etc..

So what was the SCR/DCR for the setup? Stock unmilled heads on a stock bottom end with stock gaskets? I can run the number if you provide the specs.

Sounds like this would've been a solid 600rwhp setup with a compression bump and an MSD/102?

All the strong forum personalities and just a few that are sharing. I'm surprised and a little disappointed.

Probably would have made around 600 @ the wheels w supporting mods and a tad more comp. 600 is pretty typical for that cam w mods. Heads just had a cleanup pass of .010", stock gaskets.

Call Jones. He has made significant advancements with LS profiles over the past two or three years. His Inverse roller cams, paired with good lifters and springs make serious power. He uses a smaller radius grinder to get more of an Inverse than others do. You get more valve opening, with less duration, but a nice touchdown on the close. You just don't hear about his cams on these car forums, because most of his customers are hard core racers who do not by BTR and Comp cams and springs.

I was talking to Mike Jones and he recommended a 253/259 114 for my setup. I am still in duration shock!! I am coming off running a 243/259 112and was thinking something more around 240/252 113???

What did you tell him? Not being part of that conversation, I don't have any idea what you asked for.

Keep in mind that with an inverse roller, you can run more duration with less overlap, but without increasing opening velocity. I'm betting with the cam he called out, your seat to fifty valve OL is pretty close. I don't know why they are not more popular. Probably costs and difficulty involved in grinding them.

I'm intrigued by the science behind his cams but not interested in being serial number 001.

Repeatability and proven performance is where I find comfort.

LOL

Jones has benn grinding IR cams for decades. You'd hardly be 101.

Agreed. The best builders and tuners aren't even present in this forum, or any forum for that matter.

I filled out one of his cam recommendation forms... I'll share what he specs out, in this thread. It'll be interesting to see the differnece vs the current cam gurus recommended specs.

Here's what he had to say... lift would be the .360 x 1.8... .648".. that lift makes me nervous with hollow stem intakes and not fully knowing my spring specs, I know they're either the .660 pac's or the eht's... and this is ICL of 110.. so 114+4.

255/261 .648" 114+110... I wonder what I'm leaving on the table between the 2 cams, and what kind of drivability differnece there would be.. hmmm

You're using small bore heads on a 4.135 bore???

I'd be less concerned over lift than the heads. Plenty of spring options out there to control the valves.

"Max effort" street duty, and you are concerned about drivability? I think you may need to revisit priorities. No, that cam will not play nice under about 2500 rpm. Might be a nicer playmate with some better heads and a larger intake valve.

Same here!! I ask for a cam for a street/track LS7 with good drivability and fuel mileage. I got this back. My feeling is that it would be hard to tune for drivability. I have no experience with inverse roller cams to determine if this is reasonable.

This is as big as I can go, and still work with your springs.

Cam# LS7, HR75348-77348-116

.348"/.348" Lobe Lift
.626"/.626" Valve Lift
