What was your build "before" configuration on the dyno?

That combo should be a great street setup while at the same time beating up on the C7 Z06.

Is the 116 cam truly stock like driving? I've driven Zs with the 110 and couldn't wait to get out of the car....

Default Great Numbers!

Was this with the K116 or a custom grind?

Yes sir with the right tune the 116 drives just like stock.
We even picked up highway fuel economy with the 116 and a Proper tune.

What sort of gains do you see with the stock intake and throttle body porting. Whats the cost and are they exchange units or my own.

Default Driving Impressions of this Build!

Hi guys,

The car featured in the thread is my Z. I just wanted to give some quick feedback- I will also be posting a separate thread just to give more feedback on AHP and Kohle.

First and foremost, everything I heard about AHP and Kohle here on the forums has been very accurate and true- He has been phenomenal to deal with it has been apparent from the get-go that he is not only a very meticulous and talented craftsman with the LS7, but he is also a very straight shooter and is very honorable and honest. 10 thumbs way up for him and his shop!

As for the driving impressions on this build: I wanted a smog legal machine that behaved itself in traffic and on the freeway. It is my daily driver. I knew I wanted to get the heads done and was debating getting the cam/TB/Intake mods. The car was pretty quick bone stock- as you all know. It was even a bit overkill for daily driving in stock form....but where is the fun in that??!

I recently bought this car and it is my first vette. I have owned a late model GT500 putting down 731 rwhp, and well as modded 911 turbos. I sold the GT500 to my brother who is currently overseas, so I am keeping it for him, and of course driving it occasionally.... so I drive the GT500 regularly....I am very familiar with it's performance.

The Z with the mods runs up there with these other cars- it pulls like a freight train at WOT. It's ridiculously strong and the throttle response is greatly improved over stock as well. It doesn't run out of steam at the top end either.

As for it's street behavior- I am quite pleased. I got a good chance to test it out driving out of the LA area when I picked up the car and had the opportunity to get caught in some famous LA traffic. The car didn't miss a beat and truly does drive like stock. In fact, when I first started driving the car when I picked it up, I was expecting something to feel dramatically different going between stoplights in the crowded parts of town....but nothing was significantly changed. The only difference was just the idle- it definitely has some lope to it and is louder than stock, even with my completely stock exhaust. To me, it's too loud and I end up being more comfortable keeping the mild to wild switch in stock position with the baffles closed. Of course this is purely subjective, and I am an early 40's over the hill guy compared to some of you out there!

I was able to test the freeway cruising quite extensively- the car runs PERFECTLY in 6th gear at 57-58 mph at 1250 rpm in 6th. NO bucking/surging, etc..... Of course it also runs perfectly at higher rpms, but to me, this is very significant- I did not want a car that I had to downshift on the freeway every time the car slowed down to 60. I truly can drive it like stock on the freeway. In parking lots, it does great as well. Lastly, I am now at 200 miles and exactly half tank of gas. That's about 25 mpg so far on this tank. Not bad!!!

In summary, here are the highlights:
1. Car is louder at idle and while cruising, but still is pretty quite with exhaust baffles closed.
2. Perfect manners around town and cruising on freeway, even in the low rpms.
3. Very snappy throttle response and huge torque even in the low rpm range.
4. WOT is pretty brutal. Yeah, I'm sure that those of you with ZR-1's, more heavily modded Z06, etc, will say otherwise, but the car is damned fast.

A huge THANK YOU to Kohle and his team- I couldn't be happier. Please make sure you ask and questions you may have- I am happy to answer them!

Keith

Hey wkcarson,
Great numbers! Sounds exactly what I have been thinking I may want. Drive like stock until you pin it! Any chance you could post sound clip, with baffles open and closed? I have 07 Z I purchased 2 years ago with 1,702 mi had wiggle test done at 4,000mi performed by Abel chevrolet and it failed! New oem heads replaced, now have 9,000 mi
My dilemma is do something like your build or wait til my warranty is up, which will be in 3 years.

I think the 102 would make more sense with an aftermarket manifold casting. It makes a difference in any case I bet but the question is whether the extra $500-600 is worth the few ponies it might give on this setup? And if a re-tune is required that make it even less worthwhile to me personally.

Is this the torquer 116, or your own custom grind?

Sweet! Nothing wrong with theirs, but I like that idea a little more.

Sure. A 552rwhp 3175 pound C6Z06(5.75 lbs/hp) can beat up on a 571rwhp C7 Z06 weighing 3524 pounds(6.17 lbs/hp).

Plus the NA C6 Z06 won't be slowing down lap after lap(or run after run on a drag strip) because of overheating.
