Proper clutch technique help
I noticed a very bad burning smell under hard acceleration, which I can only assume is the clutch. Once the clutch pedal wouldn't come back up into position (which I've read about on the forums), but it only happened once - after 10 minutes of cooling down it was back to normal and hasn't happened again, but I am getting the burning smell when I really hammer it. Very disconcerting!
I have a feeling I'm giving too much gas before the clutch is fully released. This wasn't an issue in my C5Z. Any thoughts/suggestions most appreciated!

how much power/ miles on the car? I had only 8k miles on my car and it wouldn't hold the power(head cam mods). so I put in a tick master and a mantic 9000 twin. holds like a champ now

I actually enjoy the smell of burnt clutch, don't like the consequences of it, but I can live with the smell. That and burnt tire are awesome smells.
And your clutch sounds like it's going out. Once it cools off, it'll work again. Put it in 5th at 40mph and floor it. See what the RPMs do.

It does sound like your clutch is giving up the ghost like Nachos said. At 63,000 miles with 565+ rwhp and 40+ track days, my original clutch is still holding. My next clutch will be an oem also.

Also make sure you aren't riding the clutch when accelerating - in other words, makes sure you are letting the clutch all the way out and take your foot completely off the clutch. I sometimes ride the clutch a little when getting on it and I will get the burning smell. If you haven't changed your clutch fluid in a while, you might want to also do that. 114k miles and still on original clutch.

A 2008 totally stock Z with 15k shouldn't be needing a clutch unless someone has really abused it. As was previously said, make sure you are completely taking your foot off of the pedal before you nail it.

AND..... make sure you flush your clutch fluid.... esp if its sticking. What color is the fluid in reservoir? Should be almost clear. When i bought my car it had 12k stock miles and fluid was brown.

I regret to hear you’re experiencing a burning smell when accelerating in your Corvette, and can understand how disconcerting that might be. Have you been able to bring this to the attention of your dealership? If you would be interested in additional assistance, I would be happy to get you into contact with the Customer Care team over in Canada, as they would be in the best position to help you with any questions or concerns moving forward.
Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you might have in the meantime!
Have a great day,
