Shifter rattle.. Mgw or base c6 box?
Bought a new to me 06 Z06 20k miles.. Ive put about 600 miles on the car and the shifter rattle is drivin me nuts. It already has a Mti shifter, whole shifter is rattling, is it better to get a c6 base shifter box and use my shifter or just ditch it and go with MGW?? I took apart and only play i see is in bushing where shift linkage connects to shifter, bar. Any suggestions ? thanks in advance.

I had the same issue, and it was the **** that rattled.
They sent me a new **** and it worked for a few months and began to rattle again.
I now have a Delrin peice with no issues.

A LOT of members converted to MGW over the C6 run.
Early ones had an annoying rattle, also; BUT, MGW gave existing customers a fix & new units improved minus issue.
General consensus MGW is a great mod, tight w/ better throw & overall feel. Can't go wrong w/ MGW if you're considering a change.

My 07 rattles like mad too, I think the solution is louder exhaust
JK that would probably make the issue even worse
Does the MGW really fix it? I assume the box is also needed not just the shifter?

Myself and several others are not fans of the MGW. It just depends on what you like. I like the stock shifter far more than the MGW, so I would just put a new lower box in at call it a day, assuming it isn't just a loose **** or other easy fix.

Will start with shift **** and box and see where that takes me, thanks

06 Z06 - rattle with stock shifter.
Three years ago - upper MGW installed, still rattled.
Two months ago - brand new latest MGW with their lower box - rattle gone.
And it's now one very sweet shifting unit!!

I have a mgw in a ls1/t56 iroc and love it, ive already pulled the shifter box assembly and everything out, my Z06 has no rubber bushings that mount shifter box to the tunnel but it is very tight and secure only play i could tell is the bushing in bottom of box where linkage attaches. **** is tight but the design of one screw in the side i do not like. It has a MTI shifter and i love how the shifts feel.. But the rattle has got to go.. Is there any place you can buy just the bottom box assembly? If i have to buy a shifter and box im going to buy a MGW.

Same here MGW shifter with shifter box and no rattles. I drove my friends ZR1 with low miles and the shifter was rubbery like my car was at 30k miles. He drove my car and could not believe how much better the MGW shifter/box was.

Let us know how you like it. It wasn't bad to install. I love how it shifts, I have the race ****.
I'm just trying to figure out how to use the factory shift boot and attach it to the ****. My car is an '07.

I put a bunch of thread tape on my original to try a cushion or dampen some noise but didnt help any.. Hopefully this mgw will not do it. I ordered the mgw race **** to so the **** itself will thread on to shifter hopefully a tighter fit than the oem design where one screw in the side of the **** (my opinion) is not the best design

Well the mgw with the race **** is installed. Ive not really drove the car alot we've had some bad weather. It took for a quick 5 mile trip though. This shifter and box is for sure a quality piece way better than stock.. Shifts are short and firm. It comes with dyna matt and heat barrier as well which was nice. As far as the noise, it is noticeable better...but is it all gone no. This is my first vette and its bone stock with quiet exhaust (im used to a cammed ls car with cutout open in front of back tire lol)i think because how these things are made its just the nature of the beast.. You can hear engine sewing machine noise, little exhauste noise traveling through pipes in the tunnel and still little vibrating noise from tranny or linkage.. Guess i just need a louder exhaust.. I am pleased with mgw it feels great
