[Z06] Hard tires

Hard tires
I just bought a 2011 Z07 with 9400 miles and I'm guessing the 335-25-20 Michelin sports are stock tires and I think they maybe hard...with traction control on in 1st gear it's like a skating rink, in 2nd gear it hooks but above 5k rpm I can feel the tire trying to give up and it's the same in 3rd gear all with traction control on...this car has the big halteck CAI, Corsa mufflers and tune, and I looks like it has under drive pulleys, so I was trying to decide the best overall tire to buy I'm thinking either psc2 or toyo proxes r888. Opinions plz

You won't be able to get the proper sizes with R888s in 19/20.... Cup 2s are nice...but if it is a 100% street car...I'd go with Pilot Super Sport ZP in the OE sizes. Better cold/initial traction, better wear, and all around better street tire.

Best tire all depends on your goals/budget. Are you going for maximum traction? Straight line? Corners? Long mileage? All weather performance?

As LFZ says, we are "stuck" when it comes to tire selection.
I am mounting my Cup 2's on a set of Cup rims next week, as my original Pilot Sports (same tire and age that you have) still have some tread left at 26K miles (previous owner didn't drive the car hard), they are close to being done.
That said, mine hook ok, and pull 1.1g+ on mountain runs all day long - so I'm not so sure about the age being an issue.
I'm a "roll into the throttle to 100%" guy, not a "stab to 100%", so I might not be the best judge for straight-line traction in the lower gears.
Finally, looking on Tire Rack last night, all I see are Pilot Super Sports - and the tread pattern looks different (in comparison my Pilot Sports have larger tread blocks on the shoulder), and I am not sure what the differences are between the two, if any.

The original PS2 in OE 19/20 sizes are very good tires....as they were specifically developed for the corvette for the 2009 introduction of the ZR1. IMO for the street, they are not far behind in performance to the PSS.

Like Dan the C5 Man, I too, am mounting PS2 Cup's ZP on my '11 C6Z today. My original Pilot Sports have 18 k miles but I have noticed lately that I am a roll into the throttle guy and my rears are starting to slip quite a bit with traction control engaged.

If so, that is probably what I will put on the stock wheels as the replacement street tire.

The PS2 was the top M street tire beginning in about 2004. M worked with GM to build the PS2 ZP in 19/20 sizes for the ZR1 in 2008. The PSS ZP is the successor with several years newer technology and was developed by M with GM for the C7 Z06 in the 19/20 sizes. It has more grip and better tread wear than the PS2 (not to be confused with the PSC2 DOT track tire that comes on the C7 Z06 w/Z07 package).
I have the R888's for track use and driving to events on my 09 Z06 in the 18/19 sizes. They are soon to be used up and I'll probably replace them with 18/19 PSC2 track tires that can be driven to events.

Certainly not ideal, either 285 or 295/30-18 and 325/30-19 (N-spec). Probably for balance the 285's and hope the tire split is not so big as to give me codes.
It looks like I have the same choices in R888's other than 275/325 OEM which could be a problem for me with more power.
Hoosier has good sizes but I won't drive them the 100+ miles each way to the track.
I'd welcome any input on DOt track tires for 18/19 that can be driven 100+ miles to the track and back. I already have the wheels (and another rear set that I'll mount drag radials on.

Learn how to drive the car with this kind of power since changing tires won't help. R888s are a track tire that can be spun all the way through first gear. Same goes for Hoosier A7s. I have spun both of them that way when autocrossing.
Learn to roll onto the throttle instead of jumping on it and breaking the tires loose. Be smooth with all inputs, clutch application, throttle, steering and braking. Then you will find you have plenty of grip accelerating, stopping and cornering.
You have a great track car in the Z07. Go to some HPDEs where an instructor can show you how to get the car around a track quickly. Don't waste it on street or drag strip acceleration contests as it's element is the road course where it is damned good even with 6 year old Michelins.

I agree with Bill on this...my stock 2010 m-y OEM Michelin PS2 ZPs still have plenty of grip (and yes, the car is stored
inside reducing exposure to u-v radiation)

I have an 07 Z...Switched my fronts to 19 inch. I've had most all tires on here and the Pilot Super Sport non run flat is without a doubt the best.
295-30 front 345-30 rear. But really, this has been run into the ground on this forum on numerous occasions.

Has anyone made the switch to Pirelli pzero? They are rated the same as the Michelins PS and have the 19/20 sizes. I have Michelins now and they SUCK for traction (in straight line)-IMO.

I run the Hoosier R6s. I have CAI, headers, tune and dropped 200lbs of weight which is equal to another 30-35 hp. Tires hold second gear and pull 1.2 g in a turn. But I just drive locally around 50 miles a week.
