What's the fastest car you've been able to keep up with stock?
Question for you guys. I have a supercharged 99 making 635rwhp and my buddy just picked up a z06 bone stock. We did some highway pulls and it was literally neck and neck. I started to pull a little but I'm pretty upset that my car wasn't faster.
Now are z06's just that fast or is something possibly up with my car?

C6Z06 vs 635rwhp mustang I'd say yes due to extra weight, but your vette vs. a stock c6Z - something wrong with your numbers OR C6 wasn't stock.

Something must be wrong with my car then. I have the dyno sheet to prove my horsepower but maybe his wasn't as stock as he says. I'm going to have to send my car back to my tuner and have him double check what's going on.

A FI car needs about 100 more HP to run with an N/A car of similar weight

Where the SC builds power, typically at the top of the RPM range if its a centri and you have to get there.
N/A motors are more responsive.
Strokers make big TQ down low
No boost lag
Power UNDER the curve

post 19 specifically
theres plenty of post where 600 n/a cars have walked 600 SC cars but above are just a few reasons

His car likely wasn't as stock as he said but if he's within 100 HP of you, it would be a close race.

FI cars will big end but if a N02 or N/A car gets out on you, unless you make 200+ more HP than they do, you'll loose.

Black car is 5 Liter eater making a little over 900wheel
Silver car is Lane change 612-15 wheel and 814 on N02, little more than 100whp LESS. Answer your own question

Watch again then:

Your definition of smoked and mine must be different because to be down 100+ wheel hp and be right there is a long way from smoked

Due to the cubic inches the stock Z06 has a lot of torque down low with a wide torque band. Depending on where you were in the rpm range and where your power starts to come on you may have been closer in actual power level to his car than you think. If you were doing the normal street type of run which most people cut off at fairly low speeds (100 or so) you may not have had the distance to catch and pass him.
By the time your car came into its power band the race was over. You may have had to run into the mid triple digits to drive away from him. Look at your torque and hp curves. Having a high peak HP means very little if you don't have the ability to keep the engine in the power band.
He probably shifted less than you did as well since he could run to 7K rpms in one gear. Third gear in a stock Z gets you all the way to 123 mph. That third gear in the Z is ferocious. Every track driver likes the C6Zs third gear pull coming off a corner. My C7Z isn't all that much faster on the straights than my C6Z was. In my C6Z at VIR I would come off the Oak Tree corner onto the back straight in the 45 to 50 mph range in third gear, I would shift to 4th at about 110 mph and the car would pull to about 155 mph 4K ft later. Using second didn't change things much other than slowing the car to make an extra shift. Now with the C7Z I am coming around the corner in the same speed range and in third gear, shifting to fourth and then shifting to fifth to get about the same speed 4K ft later.

They are fast. Also how do you know for sure what your HP is now and how do you know for sure it was actually 635 HP to the rear wheels when the dyno test was done. Was the dyno calibrated, were the proper correction factors taken into account?

just so you know how great these c6z's are. a c6z with full boltons, meaning intake, msd intake manifold , headers no cats, and a tune by someone who knows what they are doing, pick up like 5 car lengths!! That is just incredible. Believe me I know, I've owned this car for 10 years, and have raced my c6z countless times....have your car checked because a 99 gt doesn't necessarily weight that much more then a c6z,maybe 200-300lbs more with all the supercharger added.

they are quick stock - but im sure your c5 making that power would win. my c6z with only header/intake no tune was neck to neck with a I/E/tune gtr which made alot more then me. these c6z love to suprise

Safety Car
Slower then crap in a straight line lol
But in the corners they shine bright, I'm able to hit similar speeds in short distances then my high 9s Ducati.
Requires more skill on the car, but the learning curve is amazing how easy the car is to drive at track speeds even stock.

If you were pulling on him, your car is faster.
How many miles do you have on it and how many miles with the supercharger on it? A compression test would be a next troubleshooting step if the power is down on the dyno. Might be worth checking regardless.
