You won't regret it! Don't be afraid to stay a half hour from the Dragon, the whole area is awesome driving roads. Our first day there we drove a huge 3 hour loop and only went through the dragon once.

The Dragon is on my bucket list also. I heard there ate a lot of other scenic roads around the area that are less conjested than the Dragon is.

True! The dragon is like an autocross with slower technical turns and the surrounding areas are like a road course with bigger, faster sweepers. It's like car-guy heaven. It's very fun but if you drive spirited like I do, you have to be careful, there is always a real sense of danger.
