Default Highest rwhp NA Z06 we've ever tested

Halltech's ULZ700 was back in the shop for some maintenance so Jim wanted to try the MSD intake. This engine is a Track Attack 427 which is actually honed a little larger to be 429ci. It has the K501 cam, 13.0:1 compression and runs on E85. This is a direct A-B test of the MSD intake versus the previously installed FAST 102. Both have the NW102 throttle body.

Over 600rwhp NA is very rare on this dyno for the LS7. I believe Halltech may have already held the record previously.

Hello Jason,
Did you do any port work to the intake or was it used as delivered from MSD?

Nice numbers. Was either manifold ported?

Impressive !!!
I've upped my compression to 12.0:1 and Tony Mamo ported my MSD.
We only have E54 in AZ now, but I don't think it will hurt me much.
My car goes on the dyno in the next couple of days, so it will be interesting to see where I come out in comparison to Jim's car.

That's what I was wondering. Those are nice gains through the whole RPM range.

Both intakes were right out of the box. No porting.

Default Wow

Sweet. 2830 lbs (sans the carbon fiber wheels and change to the Katech ZR1 clutch)
716 HP= 3.95lb/hp

Next Gen Carbon CR9s will drop 40lbs or 2790 lbs.

2790/716= 3.89 lbs/hp

Finally....a good unbiased comparison between the two intakes I can believe.

I'm keeping my Fast. If I did not already have the Fast, then the MSD is probably the better option. But there is nothing on that dyno compelling enough for me to blow another grand, plus costs associated with swapping the fuel rails / hose / fittings over.

Great results. I like the bump in torque at 4k rpm over the FAST. Almost like a VVT torque curve without any of the complexity.

Funny you say that - I get that "any gains are good gains", but this graph is consistent with others that show the MSD does have some interesting things happening inside it with air flow harmonics / pulse timing, in that it is not linear like a stock manifold.

And I am not hating, I have one on my car - it's just an observation.

Finally a good A-B comparison of the Fast and MSD.

My builder indicated the MSD's out of the box need at least minor cleanup even if you are not porting them, too much slash left in them from the molds.

What headers are on this build? My build with MSD. NW and K501 used the Pfadt 1 7/8" and was very low torque but the power peak was at 7100 RPM. This one peaks about 6700.

I'm a B&B 1/7/8" no cats with full titanium Akrapovic EVO system, but I'll be 12.0:1 and Tony Mamo ported MSD. We recently switched to E54 here in AZ, but I hope I might be within 20RWHP and 20 RWTQ from you.

Jason, is that correct that the two dyno runs were done 3 years apart? 06/13/2013 for the FAST102 and then 09/14/2016 for the MSD?

I don't know why the calibrator picked that file from 2013, but we baselined the car again last Monday and it made the same power.

Once you get over 600 HP, is 16 HP all that much? Would you even know there was a change when driving it?

Victor, I'm sure our dyno gives higher numbers than their dyno, by probably 25+ HP.

True. It's just a number to me....uncorrected numbers actually mean more to me, as I don't drive my car at sea level LOL

If my car traps 135+ here at our altitude, it's a win for me
I trapped close to 132 with my old setup.
