lifter noise
have a 2007 ZO6 and the lifter noise seems to be getting louder. ran Button Willow over the weekend and taking it off the trailer when I got home they sounded louder. Is that normal for the LS7? Car has only 33000 miles on it. Running Redline 10-30 oil and change it every two races. Any info would be great. Thanks guys.

You should consider pulling the valve covers and inspect the rockers. Some 07s have had rocker failures. I'd also suggest that you do a wiggle test to verify if you might have excessive guide clearance.

There's also been a few OE "soft cam" and lifter failures on here as well. If something has changed with respect to how your engine sounds...it warrants a closer look.

Michael D I had the heads done at 27000 miles. Guides and valves so I guess I better take a hard look at the rockers. Stick with stock or are there something better out there. The motor is stock. Like I said only 33000 miles on it. Lot of suspension work done but that's it. Thanks for your help!

Well that little bit of info helps..... Would have been nice to know yesterday. Do you know if the lifters were replaced when the heads were done?
I'd still do as I suggested, and if you don't find a rocker that's lost a few needle bearings, then verify guide clearance. If both look OK, then you could have a camshaft issue. If you have a lobe that's been wiped out, you can drain the oil and look for metal debris. You can also cut the oil filter in half and inspect. Normally, when a cam lobe starts to fail, you know about it pretty soon. They go fast, when they start to go.
Or, you could just have a lifter that got some crap in the plunger cylinder and is not pumping up or bleeding down correctly. Sometimes that will work itself out, sometimes not. It's important to rule out the other possibilities first though, cause they can cause catastrophic engine failure.

Michael D the lifters were not replaced when the heads were done, but I will do all of the above first. No use in destroying a good motor. Thanks for the help. Ed

It was under warranty so I brought it in to the dealer. Turns out I had 2 bad lifters that chewed up the cam....all replaced under warranty.
Good luck!

Pull the covers, or get somebody like Brenton to do it for you. That engine is screaming for help, and you need to listen.
