Been outta the loop, couple questions for you guy.
Hey guys, some of you may remember me when I had my '06 Z that I bought new. I'm on the fast list as one of the few 10 second stock cars.
Well I sold my Z back in '12. I might be getting back in a C6Z again. I'm looking at an '11 Z07 with 20k on it. It's 100% stock. No warranty. I am well aware of the head issues. Just been away from the C6 forum and wanted a little help on what to look for. What's the best thing to do to check the heads? Any other help is much appreciated!

dont waste your money having them checked, just get them done.
I was quoted 250-350 to wiggle test when I bought my car. When its ~1700 to do the heads including new gaskets, head bolts, shipping, etc... doing the labor yourself, I would rather put the 250-350 bucks towards that and be done with it.
That and that the wiggle test isnt all that conclusive and to have the guides checked with a bore gauge means removing the heads and breaking them down, might as well just remove them, send em in, and not worry about it.

My new ride is a 2006 since I crashed into wall with my 2008. I have a great warranty (Vehicle1 which is replacing my differential, $5K job) so haven't touched my heads. But they will be done when warranty expires.

Frank, you know more than most these new guys. Do what your gut tells you. I have been doing AutoX lately. Wish I had the Z07 it handles much better with the suspension and stock wheels with Michelin ZP tires.

I've been tinkering with a C5 vert for the last year or two. It's a great cruiser. Still playing with my Boss 302 for now. We'll see what comes next

First off...'11 Z07. Hell yeah!
My 100% street driven '09 at 15K miles had 14/16 guides beyond service limits. Frank, you know you've got to get them done...especially if you plan to drive the car as hard as your '06.
Where are you located? Are you in/near SoCal? Kohle at AHP can quickly and easily do an inspection; and if your heads prove to be worn, the cost of the inspection is credited towards the build.

My issue is I know I'm going to end up porting the heads and doing a cam and headers ect while I'm at it... I know you guys don't know my history before my C6 Z06, but I am a reformed car modder..... I used to through tons of money at my cars. I'm married with young kids now. It's not the best time for me to revisit that... Lol time will tell though

OP: as mentioned by MTPz06 we can preform the wiggle test on your heads and confidently tell you if they are in or out of spec.
If they are out of spec and you choose to have us rework them we do not charge for the wiggle test. In short we only charge for the wiggle test if the heads pass the test.
Give us a call
310-326-2399
or email HP@americanheritageperformance.com
We work on more C6z06's than almost any other shop in the country.

Welcome back, I remeber your good input to the forum.
I was unwilling to have my LS7 without warranty in place so had the heads done and full HCI work before it ran out. At 46K miles 14 of 16 valve guides were beyond service level.
You know not doing the heads until $ for HCI work could be big $ for a new engine. You were probably still on this forum when one of our members had the head work scheduled two weeks after the warranty expired and then didn't make it thru that two weeks.
