Is the noise typical lifter tapping but lighter? metallic knock? Normal lifter knocking your not used to yet?

Mine made a hell of a racket before my build, and they were all perfect upon disassembly.

Now I get a ticking below 2k and if I don't get on it for a while it quietens up, but get on it and it comes back for a while. I know mine is normal, just wondering if your used to a real quiet motor.

So it's been a week since the last post. Has anyone broke the code yet?

I hope he's not stuck under the car...maybe someone should go check.

In all seriousness...hopefully he's got an update.

How much rocker arm side to side movement is ok? Bearings are intact.
Also noticed that the rocker arm sweep pattern is a little off center. It is nice and square but it is bigger than it was before the head work. Pattern on the valve tip looks good. So question concerning the sweep pattern being off center of the rocker arm... Does that really matter?
Stock cam and springs.
My heads were milled 0.020 and I was told to run 7.75 push rods. Getting good oil supply to the top end

I had a helper and I listened to the oil tank.with stethoscope ....no unusual noise. Just oil flow sounds. Nothing metallic.
I'm no mechanic but I would try and use some logic.
You state that there was an improvement with the Seafoam treatment. Maybe try it again. Back in my C5 days we would run it through the intake and let it sit over night and then fire it up for a real clean out of the top end.
Also if its on decal only maybe it has something to due with the pressure in the manifold. Maybe something loose or a leak.

I guess the OP is done with us? It's been 10 days, you'd think he'd let us know what it was.

Maybe he's out robbing banks to pay for a new engine....

Tapping on decel is often caused by a lifter that's not behaving. As oil pressure drops, lash opens up (technically, pre-load is reduced). I'd stick with 5/30 weight. Could try adding some ATF to see if it will clean the lifters (one quart). Don't beat on it, just get the oil to temp a few times, cycle rpms up to about 2500, then drain/swap oil. That process has worked for me in the past. Maybe 50% success.

A video with sound sure would help diagnose remotely....

Car is up for sale now. He says he has confirmed that there is nothing wrong with it.

I really hope he is okay! He is not the type of person to abandon threads. Wishing for the best.

I think I either have his phone number or address - I guess I could go looking for him, although the last communication I had from him, it sounded like he was going to sell the car.

Ya, hope he is ok. As we all know, the LS motor seems to have a very loud valvetrain.

He's always been a good dude with interesting posts and commentary. Hasn't even updated his for sale thread...but yeah, I hope he's in good, or least in better health than he mentioned.

It just seems odd (or uncharacteristic) to drop off like that. Same thing with Mark2009...no sign from that guy in years. But he was getting real angry towards the end there, so I just assumed he signed off and moved on.

I would just like to remind everyone that Mark dished out as much as he received.

And this is certainly not the reason the OP is missing here....

I do remember his ability to dish out, however, I do not remember it being personal??
