Default New Lifters in Low Mileage LS7

Freshening up the heads in my 2007 LS7 with 30,000 miles. I understand it's not necessary, but is there any downside to replacing the lifters when not replacing the camshaft?

Nothing, If you're already in there pulling the heads off, wouldn't hurt to go put in some fresh trays and lifters.

My thinking is that if you have a good proven set now? why take a chance of introducing a new failure point.

Il take proven over a guess.

Kind of what I thought - 2 schools of thought on this.

I was in the same boat as you. Just had AHP do my heads and reinstalling them now. For cheap money and piece of mind, I changed them.

I would at least pull them out for a visual inspection and if reused put back in the holes they came out of.

I changed mine when I did the heads at 3500 miles. If you only had to take the intake manifold off to get to them I'd probably let them slide but when you need to pull the heads I'm changing them now. I'd also replace them with something a bit better than stock and of course the trays too.
I'd feel like a fool if I did all that work and then in a few thousand miles I had a lifter turn or just fail and mess up most of my motor over 2-3 hundred bucks.

This was my thought when the heads came off for other reasons. Cheap insurance, mine was low miles as well.

I don't see how taking new lifters out and replacing them with other new lifters, helps anything.

These stock lifters are actually a high quality made to last hundreds of thousands of miles.

I wasn't impressed with the quality of the new GM lifters I bought. No issues luckily though. Seems like more and more people are going aftermarket lately with some doing short travel or even solid. I'm going to be looking into those options more for the next time I have my heads off. I like the short travel idea, but depending on how short the travel is you might need adjustable rockers.

I'm just looking for some drop in lifters for my stock engine with GM rockers.

Stay with stock or you may have to change rods as well.

OK. Stock it is. Back to my original post. better to leave well enough alone, or should I install new stock lifters while the heads are off?

30,000 miles means you probably have very little to no wear. Mine looked perfect at 44k and I would have reused them had it not been a new cam, and I followed a recommendation.

As suggested, you should inspect them, if they have wear signs then yes install new.

If they are clean odds are they will outlast the rest of the motor. They are not really a wear item and yours should be by all rights still in new condition.
