Default 09 cai question

Hello all new to forum
I have a 09 zo6 completely stock and I purchased a vararam cai for the vehicle that I would like to install. The ? Is do I absolutely need a tune after installation or can this system be installed and driven "as is" with no repercussions down the road ? Thanks in advance

Incorrect.

OP, that intake will give you MAF turbulence issues that must be tuned out. Anything that's "ram air" like the Vararam will cause surging issues.

Wow now I'm really confused!
To completely different ends of the spectrum.
Are either one of these determinations based on actual personnel experience?
Sorry and thanks

No need to be confused. Search MAF turbulence on here....you'll find all kinds of threads on opening the NACA duct, a device called the "vette air", LG's super ram intake, etc., even loose radiator shrouds on bone stock cars causing MAF turbulence.

The Halltech MF103 w/beehive is about the only CAI that doesn't require a tune. You can also run the Callaway Honker, but you need to order their "diffuser plate" for stock tune cars, since the blade style MAF on these cars are susceptible to turbulence.

As for personal experience, I don't like the Vararam products...fit and finish has always been called into question (even dating back to my C5Z days). Do they work? Yeah...they do. There's other CAI's that work as well though, without all the fitment issues. The install on the C6Z hacks up the radiator shroud quite a bit, resulting in the loss of high pressure air being forced through radiator...which can cause your car to run hotter than it did pre-install. I've read this on more than one occasion.

Thanks all! great venue here. Back to the drawing board!
It won't be going on till I've exhausted all my resources 😩
I also have active gmpp on the vehicle that I worry about if something did go wrong they would blame the add on and refuse warranty payment.

BTW any one wanna buy a new Vararam intake?😁

Loved the Vararam on my C5. (although the fit/finish was crap) Have the Halltech on the Z.

for an otherwise stock vehicle, save your money on an aftermarket cai.

I installed a Corsa 45962 CAI and have no issues running Diablo 93 tune.

Note - you do have to cut a hole in the cover to fit the scoop in.

No I don't have cooling issues, running stock the thermostat and I live in Texas

No I don't have water ingestion issues and I have driven it in the rain.

Yep, tune...that's why. Forgot about that version of intake by the way. That one still involves cutting the radiator shroud for the inlet scoops, correct?

Yup... But, a new cover is not that expensive.
