What is missing in this picture?
Hey Guys,
I've spotted a Z06 with a decent mileage at a decent price however there's something that came up on my radar once i asked for additional pictures. Car is an 09 with 3LT package with no nav/no magnetic ride suspension.
This:
What does this mean? Car crash? The infamous flying roof half patched up?
It seems the inner roof lining and the sun visors aren't part of the package.
I'm planning to get the VIN and check out the car this weekend and pull out its history.
Your expertise will be strongly appreciated.

It is a Z06 and there's been a recall years ago on roofs flying off in certain conditions fast forward to 1:19:
My question is what could have happened for the lining to fall off.

I'll go and see it on Saturday and take more pics and get the ID number to get a report. As for the flying roof I recall seeing people complaining about it sometime ago and they had an official recall. Any of the owners here will tell you more.

flying roof was 06 and 07 models and it was a recall, I believe. There was a problem with the adhesive that holds the roof on. Not a problem on later MYs.

The Z06 roof has a magnesium frame with a support member in the middle that spans for/aft. I could of sworn the frame was exposed once you pull the liner and insulation out... I'm not certain, but I think the panel in the picture is a standard C6 panel.

Yah, looks like someone tried to swap a base roof on. Maybe it is coverted to a targa.
Roof issue was way back in the day. First recall done on my car back in 2010ish. The top panel would peel off from the bad adhesive and the roof go flying. That was first of many horrible experiences with GM dealers. During the recall they destroyed the visors then put a new roof on with hair/grit/sand in it. Had to go back 5 time to dealer before it was satisfactory.
There is several recalls on z06s. Everyone should check to see if they are done. I know roof, steering wheel sensor coming loose, fuse box issue that kills headlights, and a few others.

I was probably thinking of something else. I was able to find an old thread where the guy converted to a glass roof....no middle support bar.

Way to many questions to answer off a pic that gives so few answers.

Some of the early Z's, 06 & 07, had problems with the roof delaminating. There was a recall for this. That picture does not look like the inside of my roof. Maybe someone put a removable roof in or just Z06 seats. Make sure it is an actual Z06. Plus, if it is a 3 "LT" package, that is not a Z06 package. Z packages are LZ, not LT.

OK, I'll say it, find another car...A lot of good deals out there if you are patient. It sounds like you are not seeing it in person from your wording, we are telling you to move on. What's the price?

Hey guys, as always thanks for your help. So far I haven't seen the car I just dug it on the trusted local "craigslist" and aside from pictures and brief description not much is known.
For those of you who recall I've already stepped away of 5 Z06 since I joined this forum sometimes thanks to some very good advice from you guys so don't worry i'm not pulling the trigger on anything.
The car has been imported from the US late August by a american used car dealer. It is an 09 model with the luxury trim package w/o GPS. It has 32,000 miles on it. From the pictures all the markings and specs "seem" to point at a genuine Z06 and not kitted base model except that roof picture. It doesn't have the carbon package !
It was listed a USD 33,000 and is now down to USD 30,000.
Now I don't have a Z06 on hand to have a closer look at at the inside roof so I did a bit of research on the OEM part websites and it seems the non-carbon package Z06 shares some of the same roof specs as the base model. Again that's what I found and I may very well be wrong.
Just like one of you stated I have the impression that this is a coupe roof that looks welded.

Carbon fiber package Z06 roof: https://stores.revolutionparts.com/g...Y4LWdhcw%3D%3D
Again I don't know how accurate this website is in its description so again wild guess.
I don't want to ask anything on the phone simply because he can say anything. I'll get the VIN, take some extensive pictures and get a Carfax report.
If I had to take a wild guess:
1. The car is a base model trying to appear as a Z06 but the risk of doing this for the dealer is quite high since the law is very strict on car sales here. But if it was a base model I would see the front latch spaces in front for the removable roof (I own a base c6) then again the back one seems to be there. the carfax will show it.
2. The car has been in an accident (and a pretty spectacular one) or some tree or object damaged the top structure of the car. The dealer tried to mend it with some half a** attempt by welding the wrong roof or something. The carfax will show it.
3. The car roof got damaged or didn't age well (i've seen plenty of roof lining failing in this country). Its just cosmectic interior parts.
If anyone has a C6 Z06 picture from that angle with and without the headliner then this would make my life easier.
EDIT: Apparently both Z and base have the same magnesium roof.

The only viable pics of the "same angle" comes from an old post from a member converting his Z to a targa.

Ask the seller to send you a picture of the VIN that is stamped on the windshield frame AND open the glove box and take a picture of the white sticker that has all the 3 digit codes on it. Something is not right here.

There's lots of things you could do within reason to pass off a base model for something that it is not. Swapping out the chassis is not one of them. Going to look at it on Saturday? Bring a magnet and touch it to the frame. If it sticks, run away.

Guys I love the frill of the hunt, i'm not gonna give up now. The dealer is 25 minutes drive away from where i live. All its gonna cost me is a pleasant drive with my C6 to the dealer.
If its a turd well i'll have a good story to share with ya :-). If it isn't then the real discussion starts ... Because something happened to that car and i will find out what.
In the meantime does anyone of you have a picture of their Z06's headliner? Possibly even what's below. That would feed the discussion fairly well until saturday.
