Default Specific Advice for buying used Z06

Good morning all, I was set on buying a 2006 C6Z from a dealer, with 15k miles. They are asking $35k for the car, FYI. But after reading some of the hundred "Advice for buying a used Z06" threads, I think I might change my plan. Instead of having the comfort in a dealer bought Z06 with a "CLAIMED" third party Lifetime Power-train warranty, should I buy a cheaper Z with more miles, and spend the money on heads/cams/exhaust...etc. From what I'm reading, if the mods are done properly, you will be left with a faster, and more reliable LS7.

Thanks In advance,

Dan

PS, if anyone knows of any good deals on a Z06 in the North East Ohio Area let me know!

That is a great deal if the paint is clean and tires and brakes are new.

The only issue is the heads which can be done yourself under 2k.

If its the color you want, don't miss it.

Buy the car that you want, whoever has it...dealer or private seller, makes no difference. If you buy one that has mods, make sure they were done correctly and with good parts. If you can get a warranty, fine.

Just to add another perspective, I bought a 2008 z06 with 62k miles last year for $35k off the forums here. It came with a Halltech CAI, Magnaflow catbacks, 2009 black spyder wheels, custom suede seats, zr1 spoiler and custom black paint job on the roof. The engine was replaced in 2013 due to the heads going bad.

It's at 72k and now I'm doing all the goodies on it, cam/heads/headers etc and it has been running strong besides needing a new starter ($300).

It has rock chips from so many miles but besides that the paint is great and the interior looks new. I feel like alot of z06 owners have a high-mileage fear for some reason and to me it literally matters none.

Well, at least you're no longer spouting your BS statistics. Two posts up from yours...complete motor replacement. I guess he belongs to your .01% club? Or have you moved off your estimates?

I'll ask you again...even though I already know the answers. Those new here may not.

1. How many LS7 cylinder heads have you personally, physically inspected with your own two hands?

2. How many miles do you have on your own personal C6Z?

3. What was the outcome of your valve guide inspection on your own cylinder heads, on your personal C6Z?

You will have to entertain those heads its not worth the risk of dropping a valve. One minor item on a Z06 that year or like mine an 07, the Nav unit if it has Nav does not have a USB port. I replaced my Nav unit with a newer Z06 Unit with the USB and far nicer to play music, charge the phone and has the phone plug also to stream music. I chose to replace my heads vice fix them and my OEM heads are in the attic in case I ever want to fix and or install them as they do flow well. That's my 2c but if you like it and it is in good shape then get it with those low miles on it.

That's a reasonable price, I'm with the others, it's a bad time for a dealer in Ohio (if that's where car is) to sell a Z, try to beat them down a grand or two and get the heads done immediately.
