Custom doesn't mean unproven. Seems like the vast majority of people have no clue what custom means.

I've heard plenty complaints on the "116s".

That coupled with going with a fairly mild cam, I'm not sure why it would raise a question on longevity just because it was custom spec'd?
You're in good hands...

What is to complain about?

I read one post and it was a dumb guy who kept measuring his pushrod length incorrectly.

I understand lobe designs are tested prior to grinding, but I just like having a specific grind tested.

The Katech 116 cam is tested and proven, as is anything they put their name on. Cam Motion and EPS both have great reps for good reason. I don't think there's a wrong choice- any of them would be a good choice IMO. It just comes down to personal values and preference.

People love their cams, until they drive a car with a different one that idles better, drives better, and makes 30+rwhp more. Then they complain about their cam and how they should have got a different one. Seen that time and time again with several "popular" cams.

Easy to say its the best you can ever run or recommend it, when you have nothing to compare it against. My first cam was the best cam ever, then the 2nd one was best one ever, etc etc.

Friend loved his lethal cam back in 2010, until he drove my mamba. Drove better. Made more power, idled better.

Funny, the cam I am swapping out for something smaller, is a Black Mamba cam. The drivability isn't terrible for it's size, but it's definitely no where near stock. It's far from ideal in traffic and not too pleasant to just cruise in general as you have to keep the rpm's up to avoid surging/bucking.

Either way you make a good point, and so many factors come into play including personal perspective & traffic conditions, the specific combo, and of course the tune.

Yep. My mamba drove amazing.

CPR alpha cams out trap K501s 5-6mph and drive better. People love those cams, until they drive a cam that makes more power and drives better.

i went with a Katech torquer 116 and feel it has great drivability and power. It's a little less torquey than stock up to about 3k rpms then it's hold on time. Way more mid range and top end!

Funny the OP mentioned a G5X3 as I had one in my '00 C5 and slowly came to hate it. Way too much surging and bucking at low rpms. Retuned twice. Eventually swapped it for a milder cam and was much happier. Cams are very subjective but they sure sound great at idle!!
