I heard it is the same thing as a 2006-2010 Z06 exhaust with the muffler mod (a straight instead of perforated pipe), which I heard is what the LS3 has stock from the factory.

i watched the video with the powerpoint presentation. the gm engineer mentioned the z06 exhaust, and NPP and made it sound like the new z06 mufflers have new "tuning" all together. only time will tell. if i find a 2011 Z06 on a local lot i'll shine a flashlight up the tips and tell you what i see.

One of the engineers at the GM tent at Carlisle started one up for us. It is noticeably louder. And more burble on decel, which I like. The major change was going from a 3" X pipe back to a C5 style H pipe also in 3" of course. The one question we did not ask was if the torque curve was affected. Seems like I have read in the past that the H pipe tended to move the torque curve toward the lower RPM range when compared to X pipe. Overall I like the new sound because the 2010 down seem to quite for me.

Wouldnt an X pipe add more power ??? I mean not by much if any but its less restrictive than a h pipe right ?
Man reminds me of my Mustang days . Off road h pipe and flows...hahahaha

I am wrong. I must have got that backwards. I went out and checked my 2009Z and it has a H pipe. So I guess the change was to a X pipe on the 2011 models. At any rate theres a noticeable difference.

IIRC:
05-07 LS2 = 2.5 H-pipe
08-11 LS3 = 2.5 X-pipe
06-10 LS7 = 3.0 H-pipe
2011 LS7 = 3.0 X-pipe straight from the ZR1
05-07 LS2 = 2.5 H-pipe
08-11 LS3 = 2.5 X-pipe
06-10 LS7 = 3.0 H-pipe
2011 LS7 = 3.0 X-pipe straight from the ZR1

i posted this in another similar xpipe thread but just recently i had my shop guy weld in a stainless steel pre made 3' x pipe in place of the h pipe..
I really like it , seems like its actually a tad quiter at crusing speeds and at wot its about the same maybe a tad louder. Sound is a little diff though , i really like ...Cleaned up ls7 tone in my opinion ..I can honsetly tell you that I also feel it a bit snappier at mid raneg and top end .Nothing huge by any means but the car sounds and feels healthier. This is a dyno tuned 08 z with kb intake...I do have a pic of the x that was welded in and as soon as i find out how to post pics from my phone ill post the pic.. any suggestions? lol

Well, no debate here for me.
I just installed an OEM ZR1 x-pipe and exhaust on my car this weekend, AND, drove a new 2011 Z06 with the Z06 Ultimate package.
The new 2011 exhaust is NOT the ZR1 mufflers...they are LOUDER !!!!
If my car had this 2011 OEM exhaust from the get go, I would have never considered replaceing the exhaust on my car in the first place.
I know RichieRich checked on the part numbers for the new Z06 mufflers and they do carry a different part number from the ZR1's.
On a side note, with the ZR1 x-pipe and mufflers installed, when the flaps are closed the exhaust is QUITER than my original Z06 mufflers. A win/win for me

first thing i noticed when i installed my zr1 x-pipe and zr1 exhaust from richierich was that it was quieter in quiet mode. loud was about the same as the muffler mod but has a different tone. i'm curious to see what they did to the new 2011 mufflers

I'm curious as hell about the 2011 Z06 mufflers now. I'll keep my eyes open for someone that pulls a set off their new '11 Z and check them out.

Guys here's a video of a 2010 Grand Sport with NPP.
Listen to the exhaust note with the fuse pulled.
I have the NPP system on my 08 coupe and have pulled the fuse.
Why anyone would want to drive these beast with the fuse in is beyond me.

Definetly quieter when the flaps are closed. Never had the muffler mod done but from what I've read on the forums you're correct about the loudness and tone.
