Default Roof bolts are not coming out

Hey,

I'm changing my painted stock roof to a carbon fiber one and have a dilemma. I have removed the 6 rearward roof bolts (the ones closest to the halo/rear hatch) and have loosened the forward 4 bolts (bolts closest to the front windshield).

Here is my issue: the front 4 bolts will NOT come out. They are loose and just keep spinning. They will not back out and don't seem to be going anywhere.

Has anyone else had this issue before? The car is a 06' z06. Anyone have any insight?

Forgot to add this in: the roof has been fixed by the dealer back in 06-07 for the glue issue. I do not know if the dealer screwed something up or if there is a special trick to getting these four bolts out. The 6 bolts I did take out, only 4 had loctite on them and the remaining 2 were hand tight.

Thank you

Man. That sucks. I recently took mine of to get wrapped and had 1 of them do that. I ended up having to cut the stud off with a dremel. It's held it the windshield pilar with riv-nuts. It's gonna turn into a lot of work if you have to do all 4 like that. But not impossible.

Man I had the same problem with both front passenger side bolts. Driver side came out fine...when I got to the passenger side I am able to turn them loose but they just keep spinning in place. Going to have to dealer deal with it.

Try putting pressure on the roof frame pushing upwards and spin.

or take a fork pry-tool and try to slip under the bolt head to give it pressure.

I tried putting pressure on the roof and nothing. They're definitely not going to come out.

My friend knows a GM tech who says he can get them out but who knows. Seems like a really, really stupid design on GM's part. If the guy can't get them out, I'm going to have to grind the bolt heads off.

If/when I get them out, I'm guessing I'm going to need to reset the rivnut, right?

Nothing like having to do way more work than necessary for a simple appearance mod

I do know that the roof bolts are ONE TIME use so if your worrying about damaging them don't. I don't think you have to rivnut it. The new ones should work out fine...good luck. I know this because I watched the service tech do mine for the roof recall

It is always best to tighten these before loosening. This repair will not be simple.

It breaks any crud or corrosion in the fastener loose while increasing back pressure on the insert that will spin if is loosened first.

Roof racks and blind mounts are were I learned this from a body shop. You cannot win them all but doing it will increase your chances of winning majorly. Some roof racks they will crank the bolts down and loosen them a bit over and over before attempting removal.
