Default New Convert to C6 Z06 & Pic Heavy

Hello Everybody,

I'm usually over in the C7 Z06 section but due to a contract delay I decided to hop into a C6. I've always loved my Vettes and have owned two, a 74 Stingray and a 76. Lots of other fast cars and muscle cars as well. Just finishing toying with a mean little Subaru, it's up for sale in a few days. I have this to say...forget modded import muscle.Fun little trial but Expensive, boy do I break parts lol. Grabbed a 2006 red Z the other day. Never hit, every panel factory, every component including non rashed polished aluminum wheels. Also a dealer dropped in fresh complete LS7 crate http://www.chevrolet.com/performance...gines/ls7.html. Complete with oil cooler and lines. Body has 37800miles and 1587 miles on motor. Motor dropped a valve at 36200. Warranty until 2018 on plant. Took a lot of effort to get the bills and history together but was worth it. Pics below, including one funny one. See if you can find it. Looking forward to contributing some knowledge. Will be posting some of the things I found that were hard to come across in the coming weeks. Also have a dyno at friends place to play with. I'll run a baseline for fun and post it in the spring. Weather was just above zero. rained the night before and washed all the salt off the roads. Hit a few small wet patches from run off. So had to wash off a bit of light salt spray. Spent half an hour really flushing things because I wouldn't be able to live with myself lol. Had to do it immediately.

Very clean car and damn those wheels look sweet! I've been wanting to get my stock spyders finished like that. What are the plans for the car?

Thanks, I was thrilled to see the polished wheels when I first started looking at the car too. First order of business is to get some better shoes on her. Has the Goodyear run flats right now 325's. New in November so I should be able to get a couple bucks out of them. Looking for something better maybe PSS, looking at a few other higher end tires above PSS's also. Next a really good detailing and some Xpel. New front lip spoiler. Typical light rash. Going to replace the original rotors with something else. They could use it, likely Girodisc. I think it will get a carbon fiber console... and for sure a steering wheel upgrade. The stock wheel just doesn't do it for me.Thinking a black flat bottom with red highlight stitching. Engine wise I'll stay stock for now since I have a GM warranty. After that.....I might just find myself some nice aftermarket heads, cam, set of Kooks, and an intake. If things fall through and I don't trade it in on a new Z06. I will have this car about 2 years likely. Enjoy the roads out there NemeZ.

Thanks Jean. I can't wait! It's winter here so she won't be out until about mid April. The weather put off test driving it a few weeks. Ended up with rain and warm temps which washed the salt off the roads. So we were finally good after 2 weeks of waiting. Tires were greasy hockey pucks at 34 degrees though. Couldn't get on it at all really : ( lol

Heh heh, wanted to run her up a bit to see if there were any vibrations at higher speed. We were in the middle of nowhere in a small town with a little wee dealer ...and I still got it lol. Highway is a ghost town out there too. Ran her up to 96mph and was on my way back down when I spotted the 5-O 's lights over a large snow bank in a U-turn section. Was on the brakes before I past her and got popped at 77mph. She seemed to do a double take before she came out. Sort of put a damper on things a bit.

Correct the wheels all have a chrome center cap. Rest of wheel is polished aluminum. All the others I've seen seem to have the same chrome center cap. If there is a polished option I will convert possibly.

What did you mean by
"Took a lot of effort to get the bills and history together but was worth it"
?

Did you buy the car with engine already replaced? Or it dropped a valve after you bought it?

Just trying to determine if there is an engine story in here, or all that is history, no point in re-calculating my probability of engine trouble in an LS7 from this thread.

Great looking car, congrats!

Great looking car, congrats!

Yes engine already installed. I bought it from a dealer. They installed the engine for the previous owner. Owner ran it about 1500 miles, then traded it in on a new car. He had it for about 5 years. His original motor was under GMPP and dropped a valve. Dealer put in a new fully dressed GM performance crate motor on August 30th. So the car was only driven a few miles before the weather got cold. We had a bit of a language barrier. The car was in a small town in a French speaking area of Canada. So it was a bit hard to explain certain details of what I wanted. Hence a bit hard to run it all down and to speak with the previous owner etc. Dealership was great though. Provided me with a hoist and any other items I requested to go over the car for about 1.5 hrs lol.

Even with a new crate engine, that doesn't mean it has good heads that are going to be trouble free for the next 100,000 miles. Just a heads up.

You mentioned aftermarket heads. I replaced my OE heads with PRC265 heads(not GM castings) that flow better than the stock GM heads. Give a little more horsepower, but not much, with the stock cam, but really help with a hotter cam.

It's been quite awhile since I've looked at a early Z06, but I recall that the factory polished wheels had more shine(higher polish) to them, then the one's on your car.

Beautiful car, and a nice little perk that you've got a fresh motor in that car.

As Joe mentioned though; just because you have a fresh motor, it doesn't mean that history can't repeat itself. Not sure if you have a B2B warranty; but if not, plan accordingly at some point to have the heads addressed if you plan to own/drive this vehicle for many years to come.
