Default 2009 z06

Hey everyone, new to the forum but a long time corvette fan. I'm 23 and currently have a 17 mustang gt performance pack but I have a chance to pick up a 2009 Z06 for $36,000 with 37k miles. I just wanted to get yalls opinion on it. I posted the same things over on SVT(my mustang community) and I'm leaving Z06 from what they said but the fact that I'm back tracking by 8 years is my hang up. I also wonder if that's too high a mileage for Z06 since whoever had could have put 37k miles of hard driving on it. Here's the link: http://friendship-auto.com/listings/...-corvette-z06/

There's really no telling how hard the car was driven, it's just up to you to find a way to protect yourself in case there is a major failure.


Some replace their cylinder heads, some rely on warranties.

Make the best decision for you.

That is a very nice Z btw.

Well I've got a company car that handles all my required DD duties so this will just be a fun car you could say. I've always wanted a C6 Z06 when I was kid back in high school. When you say replacing the cylinder heads, do you mean upgraded to an aftermarket set or new chevy parts from another LS motor? I know a little about the LS motors and some mods people do but not near what I do about the coyote 5.0 I've been a mustang guy for a while and had a couple of them so far. Haha

That's an 8 year old car. With 37K miles, that's only about 4,600 miles a year.

Yeah, I figure it was more than likely an older persons weekend car. I don't guess you can hot rod one too much if your only doing 4600 miles a year

It would be easy to - Friday night drags or just a weekend road course car, but that would likely show up in the condition of the car. These cars can be used hard as long as all the maintenance for hard use is done.

Make yourself familiar with the valve guide threads on this forum. The guides should be checked to see if they are in spec. If not then the heads need new valve guides, maybe valves and springs. A top quality shop familiar with LS7s can do this work for about $3K installed. Don't let that potential maintenance scar you away, they are great cars.

I would say thats not a bad price for that car. Check it over good, inside and out, make your best deal, and go for it. At the very least, take it to the shop of your choice and get the heads inspected.

IMO keep the mustang. It is a much nicer car.

That's exactly what I'm going to do. I just got off the phone with the guy that runs the performance shop here in Arkansas and he's got guys all over the place that know certain cars and he referred me to the local vette "expert". I'm gonna get on the phone with him and see if he could look her over for me. Ive also got a performance chevy dealership here too but I'm not sure how much help they would be

I've also been reading around about that valve guide thing and the car "dropping valves". Is that the only major thing that stands out with these LS7's? If I buy this will just be my weekend fun car so I can afford down time but I'd prefer to be able to avoid it with anything preventive I can do or look out for

Specific years have some different issues, but the Valve guide issue applies to all. Chevy just recently sent out a notice about a gas tank fitting leak on many (including 09) that they will warranty, there is a problem with the headlight wiring harness they will take care of, late 06s have the roof that flys off (warranty/safety issue) and early 07s had a problem with the rocker arm needle bearings falling out. Miscellaneous stuff happens on all cars including the Zs.

if you want a corvette get a c7. since you have a modern car,the c6 is more of a side-grade lol.

Yeah, I've got a buddy that thinks there's a perfect car out there because he researches anything he finds and likes then decides against because finds their "common problems". I figure just about anything that's of high concern with the Z could be reminded with some aftermarket parts �� That's pretty crazy with a roof flying off, I'd probably load my pants if that happened haha.

That is a super clean looking Z!

A clean 2009 Z06 for $36,000 with 37k miles is a good deal. That's definitely NOT too high a mileage for a Z06 or any car for that matter.

if you're ok with having a low tech high performance car then the c6 is a great choice. If it were me I would keep the stang for a few years and wait for the c7 to go down in prices.

Some people like "low tech". Check the car out as good as you can and buy it. Have the head issue dealt with and drive it.

By the way I would not sell my 09 Z with 44,000 on it for that price.

My 09 has almost 50K on it and I enjoy it. Now with HCIE everyone enjoys the Fusion III Extreme exhaust sound!

Thanks for all info guys, I really appreciate it. I got into contact with Dan today and he said he's got a pending sell on the Z06 that's he's pretty sure will go through, so sad day in that one. I'm gonna meet with him tomorrow and get my name second on that car incase the other guy backs out. On a good note, he's got a 13 LS3 with 12k on the clock and a vortech stepped to the motor that I'm gonna look at it

It is a great car. Purchased mine new. Now at 55k miles and on my 2nd extended warranty. If you can find one similar to mine buy it. Only serviced at the chevy deskership except the tires. I use Firestone. I love the Bridgestone run flats. All service documented. Clean/no modifications. Can't beat it for a one person daily driver. Also can have some fun when you can get away with it.
