Default Lets discuss these heads on the LS7...

Okay, I am looking at the very recently stolen info on the LS7 and have some interesting thoughts on the heads. There was some rumors floating around that they where variants of the C5R heads. Does anyone have any additional information on that?

Here is a cut and paste of the info so far:
LS7 427ci/ 7.0L. 500HP/500 Ft Lbs (512 HP derated to 500HP)
- 2 OHV (3 OHV not necessary for target HP)
- Raced based CNC ported Aluminum Head with 70cc chambers
- 11.0:1 CR
- 46 mm (1.81") Titanium Intake valve
- 41 mm (1.61") Na filled Exhaust Valve
- 104.8 mm Bore (4.125") , 101.6 mm Stroke (4.0") Aluminum block
- Forgrd Crank
- Forged 6 bolt main Bearing Caps
- Titanium Rods
- Cast Aluminum Flat Top Pistons
- 0.591" Lift Cam (15 mm)
- Dry Sump
- 90 mm Throttle Body on Composite manifold
- Ram Air

Race based CNC ported aluminum head with 70cc chambers....I guess this could mean a variant of the C5R head, but the super small intake valve size has me very confused. The exhaust is actually about the right size, but why is the intake so small? Is this the 500hp limiter? If this is truly done for velocity reasons, I am curious why the torque number is only 475.

I guess I will have to have the heads ported/polished on our Z06 along with that new cam and headers I'm guessing we should see 530rwhp to 560rwhp LS7s very easily.

Default Intake Valve Size

Todd,

I was thinking exactly the same thing when I read the specifications that were posted. Seemed somewhat odd that an engine that supposedly was to have a 7000 rpm redline would receive an intake valve that small... Even if it was to keep the velocity up in the intake port.

Of course, with a titanium valve, the engineers may have used rediculously quick opening and closing ramps on the camshaft lobes... This would get the valve open quicker and close it quicker (maximizing total airflow under the valve event curve) while still having the benefit of improving velocity... The best of both worlds basically.

Of course, the possibility exists that there may be two intake valves per cylinder as has been discussed, but I would expect an even smaller intake valve if that was the case. I'm also certain that we would have heard about it by now too considering the amount of information that has been leaked to this point.

That certainly makes a lot more sense for a standard two valve per cylinder arrangement.

I gather that this later round of data was in error in that respect?

That would make much more sense. Where did you get this info?

The valve size is too small, Unless there were 2 of them ............
Look at the size of the plastic valve covers on that thing
Maybe next time
