Default Dumb question about buying from an out-of-state dealer

Sorry for a dumb question, but I have never bought a vehicle out of state...

How are taxes paid for a purchase out of state? For example... I live in Georgia, which I think charges a flat 7% (which replaces state & local sales tax, plus the annual 'birthday tax'). If I buy a car in another state, do I also pay taxes in the state where the car was purchased?

Thanks.

I'm in Georgia and bought from MacMulkin. You pay the dealership the price of the car and when you register here, pay the 7% ad valorem plus any tag fees. Good thing is, next year when you register, all you have to fork over is $20 unless you get a vanity tag. Then it's $50-70.

dealer looks up your local tax rate and adds it to your sales price and sends it to your state very easy just as if you bought in you city
if you buy privet tho buy car bring home and go reg it and pay tax there

I live in Michigan and bought a C6 from a dealer in Ilinois.
I paid the michigan tax rate (6%) and it was sent by the dealer to the state of Michigan.
I received a temp plate from Ilinois
When I went to the Michigan Sec of State I presented the paperwork and was NOT charged any additional sales tax.

You definitely shouldn't have to pay the taxes for both states.

When buying private party, you pay for the car, you get the title and bill of sale. You do not pay tax until you register the car in your home state.

It sort of depends on the rules of the state where you purchase the car so the rules will vary somewhat.
